Nope they couldn't - but they'd have replaced it when signs of wear began to show. ;)

Didn't you moan that your PC was getting slower over the past few weeks? ;)

Have to agree, Apple products seem to be very expensive and the average consumer would simply get a Windows laptop

Apple products are generally targeted at the higher end of the market.

This doesn't really appeal to me though, I'll be sticking to my Macbook for now while I save for the 8 core Mac Pro that I've got my eye on :p

Oh, so you don't like the variety that MS offer.

Why don't you buy one of these - much more variety.

You can run 2 operating systems without any problems with partitioning and booting! Good, eh? MS wouldn't have thought of that.

I find it very amusing that Loader suggests that Microsoft aim for a variety of markets. My experiences are that Microsoft tell users what they want.

Apple made the same mistake for years, but in the past 10 years, they've been designing products that people want. I would consider a mac to be "the people's computer".

However, the same macs are capable of running almost all the same software used by professionals, in addition to Apple's own. The professionals are still people like you and me, so it seems natural that they'd still want the same basic computer.

The whole OS X interface, and Apple programmes are designed to be simple, logical and consistent. So simple that new users will pick up on it quickly, but not patronising, that even experts will enjoy using the same features.

There is no price difference between equally performing Apple products and competitors computers. Apple do you a favour by not giving you an option to buy a cheap and nasty product with limited life.

Perhaps Mr Loader, who happily promotes Microsoft, would be better served with the new mac with a solid-state drive!

Ever thought that maybe we don't feel the need to run two operating systems, when just one does everything we want it to? Also if Mac is so good then why would you want to run Windows anyway?

Ah, but is Windows really stable on the whole? It slows down a lot does it not? :p

Leopard is an excellent OS, however, some companies don't develop for it as they "don't see a market". If Apple were the market leaders, we'd have the same problem, just the other way around for Windows.

I don't know, I have nothing to compare it to as I've not yet felt the desire to spend loads of money (well, a week's pocket money in your household) on something that I don't need just so I can say "I've got a Mac". I mean people such as myself and Loader can just walk into McDonalds and for a lot less buy a burger and say "I've got a Big Mac". 'The bigger the better' and all that...

I'm happy that the place I'm about to start working has Windows. Makes a handy excuse when I cock it up.

No - the only thing that'll make you 'cock it up' will be any incompetence you may have. The rest of us manage fine with the current computers as they do exactly what you tell them to (except the mouse curser occasionally flicking across the three screens, but then that's both rare and not going to make you cock anything up...).

That's a known driver problem on Windows ... IIRC MS released an update for that ages ago...

It's a bit of an unfair comparison between Windows and Mac. If you're just comparing the operating systems, then OS X is actually cheaper (£85 for Leopard vs £179 for Vista Home Basic).

I don't know why people are getting so worked up anyway, it's perfectly possible to use both systems. I mostly use my Macbook at home and occasionally Windows (or sometimes Linux) on my other PC and at work. Both have their advantages, so really it's up to personal preference.

Although that's an upgrade price by default as all macs come with Leopard.

I seem to remember countless times of clicking things you don't want to click just to click the thing you do want again or clicking things more than once, or closing and starting again to try and get the program in question to do something. ;)

What's everyone's problem with Mac?

I have a Mac, yet I don't hate your precious Windows.

Can't you just accept that Windows and Mac are different. They're both good for different things. Neither is better than the other. It's a matter of opinion, and what you want in a computer.

Don't like Macs? Don't get one.

GET OVER IT

Windows slows down depending how you set it up and what you have on it. For example if you don't have much RAM, the computer uses the hard drive. Now if your hard drive is nearly full then of course Windows be sluggish. Now a fresh version of Windows is as fast as any other OS. Yes even my much loved OS, Linux.

Windows and Mac are the same in a way. They are both Operating Systems. But ok, yes they are different in most other cases. But on what knowledge can you say "Neither is better that the other"? It all depends on what you want to do.

Put it this way, Mac Vs PC has been going on since they were made. "Get Over It" In bold wont stop all those hates on both sides ;)

Yes, a fresh version Loader.... I'm not sure many people format their computer daily :p

OS X hasn't really got slower in my experience, but that's probably due to the RAM Apple supply is normally more than required ... :p

You didn't state if the OS had to be fresh or not ;)

But IIRC RAM from Apple is WAY overpriced. Like most of the Hardware in a Mac.

Didn't know the guys who invited Media Access Control made Macs too?

Yes, RAM from Apple is overpriced, however it's bloody good quality and it is almost unknown to fail. A lot of people who can't afford it buy the RAM from Crucial. :p

Yes, Windows slows down whereas Leopard generally speeds up after optimisation! ;)
