If the retailer was the same for the excess as the original ticket, I'd expect only one admin charge to be made. However in this case, I suspect two £10 admin charges will be applicable as you need to contact both Virgin Trains and an online travel retailer.

It shouldn't be two charges, surely! I appreciate, Yorkie, that you're living in the real world but the OP only has one ticket, a 1st single to Preston. There has recently been discussion on another thread about the fact an excess changes a ticket to another one.

An interesting view. The alternative view is that an excess fare converts one ticket into a different ticket. If this is so, then the paper on which the excess fare is printed has the status of a voucher rather than a ticket. In which case, the refund is for one ticket with its associated voucher(s) so only one change fee should apply.There areq two tickets from two retailers
