As a response to the football thread, who on the forums dislikes football?

I for one HATE football with a passion, I hate how its rammed down the publics necks, I hate how a working class game was snatched away from the proles and turned into big business, I hate how in society that you are looked upon as an outcast if you dont display at least an obsessive enthusasm, for a bunch w***** playing an innocent past time. I hate how football is biased towards the clubs with the most money, so that the teams stay on top of the premier ship. I hate how kids use tossrags like Wayne Rooney as role models. I hate how the top clubs have an almost religeous following.

By the way I dont hate the game itself, its peoples attitudes I hate. I would rather watch a match from the 1970s compared to now.

Quite a few of my friends follow football, but the main difference is that they tend to favour the lower divisions (Exeter, Yeovil, Swindon) and the discussion tends to be fairly balenced and neutral. I semi support Real Gothic (prononuced as in Real Madrid) in the Histroy of Guns Cup against Athletico Gazette. But that is more a charity game played for a laugh (and usually Real Gothic lose)

I do not care for football at all. I have never acquired the meme and I find it boring. Unfortunately the media have the idea that everyone must be interested in the wretched game and even the off season is filled with trivia about the players and clubs. I do my best to ignore it all but it is far too intrusive.

I'm not a football fan. I occasionally check the results for a few teams that my friends and family follow but nothing more than that, and I certainly don't claim to understand the rules. Hear Hear, yes, there is far too much coverage of football in the papers & TV, espcially, much of it not even to do with the game itself, but more the private or should we say public life off the players & WAGs-boring. Give me Rugby any day, (sat here by the way in my WASPS Jersey).

I couldn't care less about football. The media coverage is ridiculous. It seems the nation is obsessed with what color socks John Terry is wearing, and who Wayne Rooney is going about sleeping with.
These men are role models to millions of children, yet the way a majority of them act is completely outrageous. And they are seriously, crazily overpaid!

Just becuase i like football doesnt mean i dont follow other sports. it is possible to follow more than one sport you know!

I watch cricket, although in MK i dont know who to watch, Durham is a bit far but Lords and the Oval are closer for test matches. I watch and play Rugby Union, I watch and play cricket, i watch Rugby League (not fit enougth to play uit now! I am a union prop....), i watch motor sports. I enjoy watching boxing. I enjoy horse racing. I mean watching as in attending not just on TV

Agree to disagree, Football is my sporting 'passion' (Celtic FC being my team), and Cricket? Just coming upto the 29th season playing for the same side in Cornwall, Ludgvan CC.
Modern 'individual' footballers on the other hand....

Fine if you dont like a sport, but dont go round exagerating things. You make it out as if the only thing that goes on in cricket is people rubbing cork against their crotch (actually its their thighs, and this is part of the skill of the game).


Its like most on here exagerating things about football. I admit papers go OTT over the private lives of famous footballers, but to make out there is too much coverage on TV. Thats totally untrue. What is more the case, is that other Sports dont get enough coverage.

All youve got to do is say that you dont like a certain sport, and say you dont get any enjoyment out of it. Making exagerations doesnt help.

I would rather support some of the crappest teams in the country, than any of the teams in the premiership. I'm proud of my ignorance towards football, I dont know anything about how divisions, leagues, friendlys and any other form of football listings works. I'm sure the organisers or managers of football are autistic becuse they feel they have to meticulously, list and catagorise something that has about as much purpose as trainspotting, or the lib dems.

If you walk into an 8 year old football nutters room, they will probably have a premiership wall chart and a stickers collection which they will have to catagorise and list. Its as if football is encouraging people to have autistic traits deliberately. They seem to encourage people to obsessively collect football merchandised crap, to drool every time Wayne Rooney decides to park his car in another womans garage, watch every match with endless replays, fill their heads with useless knowledge etc etc.

Side note, why is football called the beautiful game? Forgive me if I'm missing a massive point but a bunch pot bellied lager drinking louts are hardly beautiful, Its like calling train spotting the sexy hobby.

I thoroughly dislike Football. I am very active, both as participant and administrator, in a minority sport, Archery. We do not have enough money, as a rule, to own our own grounds, so we rely on private landlords and municipal grounds. But, because of its high profile, these grounds are often unavailable because of football. Local authorities take the easy way out, put up a couple of posts and say they are catering for local sporting needs. At my club, we share our main range with a football team, on a winter/summer basis. This time of year is a nightmare, as there is always a backlog of postponed matches from times when it was raining or frosty. Can we get the dates of rescheduled matches off them? No, the local FA will only release them a week in advance, and insist on the date they set being the date on which the match is played. No consideration for other users of facilities at all. Development funds? Not available, because Sport England are giving so much to football! The list goes on, and is the same for most minority sports.

I know I'm supposed to be on the pro-football side, but I would like to say that I absolutely love this idea! Might I suggest a 5-a-side with the following Prem players facing the world (someone else can make that team):

Balotelli, Drogba, Nani, Rooney, Torres

I tried to make an opposing team, but I could only come up with Ronaldo and Ballack. I also thought about Kaka, on the grounds that Real Madrid paid far too much for him [and obviously Ronaldo, but he's a shoo-in], so that leaves one more.

Henry's too decent a man for that team. And he doesn't have an exceptional excuse as with Puyol. As I put above, I would suggest Beckham, mainly because it'll make all the tabloids go crying to their mamas!

So both sides have one English, one Spanish, one Portuguese, one other European, and one non-European.
