Old iPhone apps will run, but aren't they just scaled up?
I also think you'll find that now most developers are starting to properly design apps for tablets, given Google has finally come up with some pretty good and strict design guidelines (and did so early last year). I am not sure Twitter has done much yet, but most others now have a totally different look in tablet mode, using up that extra screen space productively.
iOS still generates more revenue than Android (i.e. Apple owners spend more money). Part of that is because it's easier to do so, as well as the argument that iOS users are more affluent, but that's also changing and the general advice in the developer community is to concentrate efforts on Android.
In fact, the developers that take the risk and release something on Android first stand to make a shed load of money given Android's growing dominance and the fact that the new Play store makes it far easier to buy content, either on the device or via the web with the ability to auto install (and remove) apps.
