Ambivalence between Delayed and Cancelled

Anyone else been irritated by situations where one source of information e.g. a station departure monitor continues to show a journey as being "Delayed" long after it has in fact been "Cancelled" and shown as such on rail information internet sites? Is there never going to be a way that "Delayed" can instantly be updated to "Cancelled" immediately or at least very soon after the journey has been cancelled?

I am pretty sure once a train is cancelled, it will show as such. But there are examples of a train being effectively cancelled because another train turns up and has the same stopping pattern, so everyone obviously boards that, and the 'cancelled' train continues to show as delayed but the time is now in the past so new arrivals aren't expected to get that train anyway.

In some cases, the train might have a fault in the depot or was not prepped, and comes out an hour or more late and runs in some form or another (perhaps cutting out stops) and so was never actually cancelled.
