Initally, yes, but eventually, wired up from cardiff, previous post edited.
If you run Worcester and Cheltenham as bi-mode though I expect you'd be able to get enough Voyagers from Virgin to cover Paddington to Plymouth and Penzance.

Well, the other thing is, if we can cascade 221/222s then they can be modified to become bi-mode, without too much hassle, rather than p***ing about ordering new ones.

Solve a lot of problems and Sack Hitachi then
As I said, I don't think it's that easy. The specification did not include a requirment for locomotive haulage off the wires but did include the requirment for the train to be able to split en route, not an easy thing to do if you have a locomotive. Hitachi met the specification and were selected as preferred bidders. I don't think you can just go and retender it.

here here! best idea out of all the thousands would be to put the whole thing back on the drawing board, not take ages over it and comd up with something logical involving some out of the box thinking.
Solve a lot of problems and Sack Hitachi then... Just because they don't know how to make locomotives doesn't mean that Siemens don't.

And working this out on the back of a fag packet, Electrification of MML would release enough medirans to cover all the diesel diagrams left over outside of Paddington - Bristol & Cardiff - Swansea via Bath and Parkway and Oxford wiring. Crewe - Chester falls slightly short...

Well, if they claim that the ressession has changed the specification of the project, or if the other two bidders say the specificaion has been changed in colousion with hitachi, it could be forced to be re-tendered.

All I'd hope is that if it does get re-tendered it doesn't go to the Chineise

Might I suggest we try and keep the discussion contained in one thread (now we have one). See here.
