Slightly off topic but does anyone know how much the likes of alliance rail, hull trains and grand central spend on proposals before a train is even run?

Is it beyond the scope of a mediocrely wealthy rail enthusiast to get an idea to market?

The Newton factory is being built with room to increase production lines (by a quarter I think it was) if required, though not sure that a OAO order would be large enough to make it worthwhile. They say in their application that they expect all SET's to be delivered before service commenced.

The Application form says they are using SET for the application though other rolling stock of similar performance is still under consideration (Baby Pendolino?). SDO to be used at Guiseley and Habrough.

Says NR dont know for sure that capacity for more services will be available and they wont until they have finished construction, though Alliance assume it will be as a result of improvements, capacity would become apparant with planned recasts in December 2016 and December 2018.

Cleethorpes service requires bi-mode trains, Bradford would be with either electric or bi-mode sets.



Some services would start off with multiple working while others would become multiple operated if required by demand growth, they would split at Doncaster for Leeds/Grimsby Town (Grimsby Town is given as timing point rather than Cleethorpes). Attaching services are on average 10-20m slower than directs though theres one attaching service down as being 5 minutes faster than direct.

Main investment would be in East Leeds Parkway and the rolling stock, smaller funds would be available for improving other stations.

The what factory? Do you mean Aycliffe? Think I might head down to the beach at Great, or take the ferry to the Netherlands from Kingston.

There are dozens of Newtons in the country but I dont think anyone would think of any other than Aycliffe in relation to rail factories.

I don't think I've ever heard Aycliffe referred to as Newton in my life and I'm a Durham lad. Newton Aycliffe, Newtown Aycliffe, just plain Aycliffe, but never Newton. Newton is the descripter, it's just pain wrong in my opinion. It similar to shortening Leamington Spa to Royal or Great Malvern to Great

Bi-mode, it's the future and it's about time. I think these should be getting introduced on the TPE network too, it would make more sense.

That's what I am thinking for Barrow and Cleethorpes to Manchester. Barrow-Cleethorpes direct via Manchester?

Yes. Liverpool to Blackpool will be a route 100% under the wires by May 2016 while Manchester to Bolton to Blackpool will be by December 2016. So any proposed Blackpool to London services could use electric traction from May 2016.

That's Blackpool North, of course. No plans to wire South at present.
