I thought my 14 Day First Class ALR was good value for money, to other fares I could purchase
Total cost was about £1400, including ticket and berths
This works out at about £100 per day
Most days included the equivalent of London - place - London - Scotland, plus one southbound sleeper journey

Any views on the attached proposed 7 day ALR for this July. What are the chances of it working out.

There are a lot of changes of train there, and many are just 10 minutes
Do you have contingencies just in case you miss one connection?

What happens if this train arrives at 10:14 and you miss the next connection

When I made my spreadsheet I put the next alternative in the next column, giving me up to three options, but still allowing me to complete the day (typically to ensure I was on the London bound sleeper)

I admire your dedication to the railways For that, I could have had 2 weeks in the carribean on a lovely cruise

It's not something I would normally be able to do and I do agree when you compare it to other holiday types it does not look like great value for money
However, don't forget this includes travelling for almost 20 hours per day by train

Plus it allowed me to be back home once a week for a few hours (as there are no sleepers on Saturday nights)
Also, I don't really like holidays abroad in the summer, I much prefer what we have in Britain during our summers
On my last holiday abroad I went to Asia for 8 weeks, now that IS a holiday, none of this two week hoohaa for me

With the risk of going off topic, since Britrail has been mentioned, does anyone know how many "buddy pass"es can be bought for each Britrail ticket? I am thinking of getting one myself (legally) for the summer so might be able to carry someone along
