Just out of interest does this line have any Stations near Parkhead Stadium? Im not a Celtic fan but was wondering if theres any potential for these new services to have increased usage at weekends by football fans.

Well there we go then. I get the bus to away games with my team but theres some potential for the sellick fans and away fans to come from the east almost direct by train come december, although i must say once that line opens i will never travel on it as a matter of principal. Doo and i will avoid it.

AIUI, Bellgrove is the best for Celtic Park. It's where all the fans usually get on and off for the games, and Scotrail are quite good at putting some 6 car trains on on match Saturdays in my experience.

I'd imagine that, for any games at Celtic Park, additional call could easily be made at Bellgrove for the purpose (on the limited stop services going non-stop from Sunnyside to High Street). Hearts and Hibs are the two biggest teams likely to take advantage of the line for the purpose I reckon.

Folks also seem to use Bridgeton for Football game access.

God I hate traveling to/from Glasgow when there's a damn football game on. I usually try to get the Larkhall train home to avoid the football crowds, but that doesn't make waiting at Central LL any quieter!

I dont drive. I use one of our supporters buses as ive been going on it for for 10 years. As for Hertz and Hibernian Fc bringing the most fans through. We (Hibernian) have only been allocated around 900 tickets for the next game at Parkhead and we dont usually sell them out as its £28 a head. I think Hearts get allocated the same amount of tickets. So there wouldnt be that many away fans heading through by train. Could Motherwell fans use this new service although a change would be needed wouldnt it?

Strangely, Parkhead stadium is virtually half way between Bellgrove and Carntyne
Some passengers from the Airdrie side would travel to Carntyne
It has always surprised me that a new station isn't built specifically for Parkhead, as it would also serve the shopping centre
Passengers from Springburn would normally travel to Duke Street

A similar situation exists with Ibrox
A station there would also serve quite a large area, as well as the football stadium

I have always been surprised Dumbreck isn't extraordinarily busy on match days at ibrox, though it is noticeably busier to be honest. It certainly isn't far away.

Might well be a case for opening a station nearby what was the Parkhead North with the "Forge" shopping centre in the eastend of Glasgow only being yards away from the new A2B line.
Would the next station down the line "Carntyne" be a loss if it closed.

They don't need to, they would jump the Argyle line to Dalmarnock or Bridgeton which are also not a great distance from the piggery. Whoops , i meant Celtic Park.

Hope this clears up the whole nearest station the Septic (sorry Celtic) Park AKA Parkhead. In case you acn't tell I'm a staunch rangers Fan

Maybe one day the Glasgow Crossrail project will get the go ahead, a new station will be built at Ibrox linking most of Scotland direct to the stadium via the new Airdrie/Bathgate line.
Then again, only Switzerland could come up with an idea like that.

Im not a Celtic fan but couldnt resist this. Celtic have no fans you say?? Dont you remember the 80s when Rangers were getting crowds as low as 8000 at home games against the likes of Morton, you no its funny that all the Current Buns seem to forget that and deny it when asked about it.

As for the Celtic fans are they not still waiting on flights back from Seville???

Nope, but we (Rangers) had a much higher average attendance than 'them' ( I refuse to use the word Celtic anymore!) last seaon - even though our ground is way lower capacity. I take it it must be too expensive for all of Celtic's 'fans' to fly over from Japan and Ireland every week.

I actually quite like it It's a lot cleaner and more modern than their old site. And I quite like being able to get the timetables without sifting through a 50 page PDF, of which about 48 pages are filled with useless information. It still needs some tweaks, though.

Lanarkshire got new stock in 2002, in the form of Class 334 Junipers. Lancashire, on the other hand, hasn't had stock since 1967. I think that was his point

I was actually talking about where I'm from... Lancashire. Just commenting the people of SW GLasgow/Ayrshire/Gourockshire (!) dont know how lucky they are, we'd kill for that down here in Blackburn
