What's 'Fother's Day' when it's at home? :s
I did wonder if it was an unnecessary woke-esque merge of Father's Day and Mother's Day.

I do propose to start celebrating it next year though. I will send a freedom of information request to Transport for Wales to see if they can tell me whether Fother's day occurs on the 15th March, or the same day as Mothering Sunday. That is important to my Fother's Day celebration plans.

TfW have revealed a future role for the 150/2s as interactive whiteboards. The modified shell is a bit unrealistic for some so I will reveal the plan here instead of in the main thread.

Rumours exist that the inside of the train will be kitted out as a dedicated museum to the use of Armadillo Juice as a transformative rail fuel.

The UK has enjoyed the Rail 200 exhibition train; perhaps this is the 69 exhibition train? It misses a few maternal quotes:
"Ask your father"
"Well, it won't flush itself"
"That's a nice piercing - does it set off airport security alarns?"

Or were those just my mother's?

I assume that the reference here is from:

"In 69 when we went in to division 3,
the Blackpool fans they cried aloud, 'That's the end of PNE'.
Alan Ball he came, we played the game we went to Fulham too,
we won 1-0 and now we're back in to Division 2.
We'll win the league, we'll win the cup, we'll conquer Europe too,
and if you come down Deepdale Road we'll sing this song to you...."

At least that's the only connection I can form between my Preston born mother and 69.

Bryan Adams Summer of 69. An uplifting anthem, thus played through the train's public address, so mother and family can happily sing along.
It's got to be better than showing re-runs of Some Mothers do 'Ave 'Em.
Something like this:

Before anyone says anything. They invented a means of having a solid looking outside and different design backlit interior. It is doable with one-way glass and the right printing.

Look what Dave has found in the attic of Teignmouth station! (Entirely wishful thinking of course, none are known to have survived)
View attachment 200367
Are you sure Dave's dad did not remove the sign as a lad?

By remove, I mean acquire from a reputable railway memorabilia firm that had legitimately acquired the sign during the replacement of signs in the Teignmouth area.

Probably said reputable railway memorabilia firm worker was then enjoying "Mam's best pasties" and forgot all about that transaction. It is not like they had Sage accounting software in those days.

Teignmouth totems had gone by around the early 60s having been replaced by fluorescent lamps. I’ve just noticed the length of Dave’s left arm!

That was possibly the genetic feature that helped Dave's dad acquire the sign in the first place

Not completely realistic, but demonstrates that Gemini does know Shrewsbury:

I hope they sold those pasty bouquets. Not sure how edible they would be after the exhaust from the lesser spotted TfW 150/1 had done its thing.

You've got to love the stone-carved armadillo in the niche above the pasty stall! :D

At Shrewsbury now on 1W11 (04:32 Cardiff to Manchester Piccadilly) and there are no armadillos on the railway side. Most disappointing.

Half the people getting on the train do have pasty bouquets though. Must be selling them off.

Interflora's strapline used to be "Say it with flowers". Perhaps what was said to these bouquet-wielding folk, was: 'I've told you before - I'm not your mother. Now get right off my garden flower-border'.

Perhaps there's a Bride Of The Year event in the vicinity, in need of floral enhancement.

As long as there is not a Bride of the Year event in need of pasty enhancement. There will be a shortage now all those pasties are near Crewe.

Given that America celebrates Mother's Day in June it would be great to see TfW keep the livery (not so fussed that they have a 150/1)

I wrote an AI image prompt asking Gemini to create a low-down perspective of 86 502.
Gemini clearly does dry-wit now. Not that ruddy low down...
Here's a link to what it was supposed to be:

I tried explaining that CrossCountry have overcrowding problems. I think someone must have submitted a freedom of information request on why the voyagers are too short and CrossCountry responded accordingly

And before someone says the voyagers never make it to the industrial north in their artichoke day livery, well they do:

My Gemini lost the plot as I tried to correct my earlier image. The result resembled an Escher picture, so why not add a carriage to celebrate?

Glad Dave's arm is back the right length. Clearly the extension was useful getting hold a few more signs though.

Out of interest is Dave launching a podcast. Everything seems very well placed. If he is, then maybe Harriett can nip back round the Hotel curve and visit Tandy on Oxford Street for a mic.

For those who like their voyagers substituted for 158s, here is a northern train terminating at a new experimental inaccessible platform. The use of an aramadillos garden as the buffer is also novel.

Huh! I see that we're back to having five rails between two platforms again - at least at the far end of the station - and the 158 is divided between the centre and fourth rail, straddling the 'six foot'! :s

...but is it inaccessible? It looks like an alleyway between the two houses at the mid point of the platform. Admittedly it's a very loooong walk round to the overbridge in the background. Maybe there's a subway* we can't see because of the canopies and the train?

*The sort you walk through under the tracks, not the sort selling pasties and their rival Eccles cakes.

Gemini has been doing that to me a lot, no matter how many times I tell it that it needs to pay attention to the track structure.

When doing the "snaking through" images like the lake district images, the results are fine. However, once it starts trying to think about the stations (here the advertising boards, viewing from a bridge etc.) it forgets all about the importance of the track geometry.

There was a thread about making HS2 trains really wide and ending up with gauntlet style track to access platforms shared with conventional units. I dont think we can give Gemini credit for having read those though.

@Peter Mugridge has at least found a route for the 158s passengers to access the train, even if the train is not next to the platform because of the 5th rail.

I managed to get the track fixed, but half the train left and there is now a real chance the armadillo will escape.

Fig Rolls were divisive enough without them becoming the centre of the Million Dollar Man v Wonder Woman debate.

Another iteration and it is making progress. Working with Generative AI is not as easy as it could be.

You may imagine that the decision to build the garden out onto the formation and claim "squatters rights" was a big issue when it came to re-opening this line

I love the Class 99-hauled rate of slurry tanks (as used in the Aberdeen Waterloo-Workington Docks flow), but not quite "West Country"!

I asked for silver bullets and this was the best I could get. This was the first take, the second was just wrong.
I feel your pain. I tried similar a couple of months ago; in the end, I resorted to back dating, with Gronks and clay hoods and 35t tankers.

I wanted to show what happens next. However, I instead captured a final moment of family harmony before they reach the two museums.

Gemini_Generated_Image_py91a3py91a3py91.png

The big question is who wants to go to which museum?
