Back in 2023, I mentioned AI imaging in this forum. This is what I got when I asked for "British Class 37 diesel loco with Mark 1 coaches. Obviously better AI software is now available.

Those AI images are fabulous @Bevan Price
I particularly like the "Hunslet industrial diesel shunter mating with a steam locomotive". :)

Yes, class 37s are closer to "plausible" and I've attached two examples from the thread Show off your realistic AI railway images

The front end of the middle picture looks uncannily like a Blue Pullman!

I really must stop thinking about dessert...
This might be the most realistic picture yet.

I am curious to know the marketing strategy behind the chicken, but for once the trackwork seems right, there are no half loco half carriages etc.

Oriental Chicken followed by 1970s dessert. ;)

The food theme continues.
I always had a wicked thought when I saw this slogan, on the Chiltern Line bridge over the M25. Now I can bring it to life..

Those peas stand no chance at all against that 156 turbostar hybrid. Maybe telling Chiltern to stop their turbostar derivatives running over peas that escaped their pods was the whole point of the graffiti.

Yesterday evening, following my wife's and son's complaints about my flatulence, I couldn't resist doing these
1) Anti superhero special power
2) An inflight cabin toilet escape

Since Google's recent update to Gemini AI image generation, not only has image resolution deteriorated but the reference data no longer renders any UK locomotive realistically.
However, these "not class 56" locomotives look impressive - despite a wholly inaccurate representation.

Is the role of the two ladies in the photos to use those tools to get the locos looking like a proper 56?

I'd have to say that for AI, producing an image of the front-end / cab of a train on the railway is probably one of the easier things it can do. Simply because there doesn't need to be much background, the cab can be done and extrapolated, rails and ballast are pretty straightforward so all it needs to be is 'on' them.

:D I should have added more power tools into my descriptive input!

I'm inclined to agree; the attached "head on" shot, which I did in the summer, to me feels convincing. Ditto post 460's class 37 in snow.

Perhaps drawing inspiration from Macclesfield's "Mr Methane", possibly Britain's only performing flatulist. There's a railway connection there as he was also a BR train driver on the Bury line (pre-Metrolink) before finding his, errmm, true calling.

Gemini's attempt at a speed record...
Meanwhile, on the other side of La Manche, the speed record attempt by SNCF using one inner rail of each track.
With no OHLE contact point, I can only assume the train got a hefty shove at the start.
Let's hope Gemini puts the train on a correct track eventually...

Seeing pictures of some of these fictitious locos generated by AI reminds me of my own schooldays creations, probably on the inside cover of an old maths book, of things like a Class 34 or a Class 49, usually with too many grills and windows because they had to look exciting.

I wonder if AI could ‘blend’ locos to create fictitious classes, like a class 34 blending/incorporating features from a 33 and a Hymek, say 3 windows, a head code box and southern jumper cables. Could be a bit like that thing where two human faces would be merged.

A few choice descriptive inputs to Google Gemini, for "British Rail diesel locomotive" + class 50 + class 47 + Hymek. It only has a limited amount of reference data, so its results vary.

Strange goings on in Kenya. Whilst creating a composition (link below), Google Gemini spotted a worryingly unhealthy locomotive; so AI algorithms uncoupled it from its train. The flamingoes aren't remotely bothered...

The first ‘35/47/50 blend’ just looks like a 56!

I love the idea of having single power cars of TGVs roaming around by themselves, bit like a video I saw few days ago of a single Class 43 from Colas running is quite funny

My class 56 photos definitely look different. ;)

More strange goings on in Kenya. Whilst I was regenerating compositions for the post linked below, I noticed it doesn't matter how hard the lead locomotive blows its whistle, this isn't going to end well for that fruit...

Following concerns that services on the Marches were finally 150 free, TfW choose to mock travellers further by putting the hyperloop sets on Maesteg diagrams and sending this 150 lash up to Manchester instead. Seen here passing Craven Arms.
