Apparetly, if this is correct, an operator is preveting students from using a certain route before 09:00 and after 16:00.

"Students Not Permitted Before 0900 And After 1600"

Would you please explain the rationale behind this notice on your H4 bus?

Who approved this policy, and why was it approved?

The H4 bus is the only link from, for example, Polmont Rail Station to Grangemouth, and it is disgusting that ageism is at play by E & M Horsburgh.

Anyone else ever heard of such a policy before anywhere?

Preventing students isn't really ageism, being as not all young adults are students and not all students are young adults.

Even still, it is a baffling policy and not one I'm sure anyone could reasonably enforce.

I'm unsure if it's much different to the policy in some areas of refusing to sell child fares at certain times of the day on school days. or after a certain time on all days.

It's different from that wintonian. In your example, students are not being prevented from travelling, just prevented from buying cheaper tickets.

The timetable on the firms website makes no mention of this policy.

I assumed this was the case here otherwise how can you tell if someone is a student or not? Its not like they are obliged to wear some special mark or that the rest of the population is provided with non-student ID.

Interesting, and strange if true. With the current trend of describing school pupils as students (showing my age again!), I wonder if this is to prevent pupils using service buses rather than school buses.

Who do they mean by students? As in those attending higher education or school pupils?

I could perhaps see some slight merit if it was school pupils and there was a near enough duplicate school bus for those users, but otherwise it's a bizarre and commercially unwise idea.

It is a very strange policy

If the council and hospital cover the costs of the bus, then they get the biggest shout about the passengers.

It is a bizarre and unenforceable policy, but it does not seem to be ageism in the legal sense. That would be barring a group on grounds of age ie no one aged under 21 or over 60). This is more like trying to ban a particular occupation from using the bus, and has been said already, how do you KNOW someone is a student?!!!

Bingo, While H3 Does not have this poilcy, so it cant because of the Health broad. its just the EHM being rather Pricks and trying to make more money, there should be ashamed of themselves.

Wave doest do this....

That's a bit strong given we don't actually know in detail what's happened.

As I thought.

Perhaps we should wait to find out what the reason is first, or are we too busy having a trial by forum?

This is interesting, I'm not one for trial by forum either but it almost doesn't surprise me. E&M-H have never been great when I've used them.

They were unaware of what a PlusBus ticket was and where within Edinburgh it was valid on their routes. I called up the very page on my phone and showed it to the driver where it showed him that it was valid on their buses to which he kept replying "... but that's a TRAIN ticket" as if I was stupid.

On another occasion someone pressed the buzzer to get off at a stop and the driver drove right past, braking only when the person pointed out they'd missed their stop to which the driver replied "Oh sorry, I've never done this route before"

So yeah, not trial by forum, but based on my past experiences, unsurprising.

Do Students get cheaper travel on this service?

That'd be my first question. My second question would be something like "is that cheaper travel at operator discretion or something required by councils etc".

Only then would I start the toy/pram scenario.

FOR Leaflet above:
- Child fares are available for children aged 5-15 & Forth Valley College Students.

Its paid for by Health broad...... that official line about the fares from them...

some of you are missing the point here: the other company which operates the H3 which goes along 95% of the same route DOES NOT have this policy

What's the council requirement for local bus services? Do all "college" students get that discounted fare, or does it depend on the operator?

That doesn't matter.

There have been routes in Sheffield where one bus company will offer Students a 60p single whilst the other has no Student discount on single tickets. That's not discrimination, just the operator deciding how to price things.

HOWEVER, if the Council required Students to qualify for child fares then there's a problem

Its NOT THE COUNCIL, its Forth Valley Health broad, which are paying for the services, There leaflet clearly highlights students fares.

Bus companies HAS NO say what so ever in the operations of the bus routes, type of buses etc. EMH are not following the rules.

The point I'm making is that councils tend to stipulate what child fares an operator should charge/ what hours they should apply for.

Similarly, south of the border, councils have discretion on what time OAPs can ride for free/ what OAPs can ride for free (trams, local trains etc)

If there's no requirement to give college students a discounted fare then there's no scandal at one operator choosing not to offer such a discount (regardless of whether another operator does).

If there is a requirement to give college students a discounted fare then this *is* a story.

That's the question I was trying to ask - in some areas fares for college students are defined by the council (to be the same as school children), in some areas they are at the discretion of bus companies (whether to offer the same fare as for school kids or not)

I wouldn't normally make an issue of this but on three different posts you have called them a Health broad. They're a Health Board :)
