Hi all,

Looking at booking a journey with a cross-London transfer on an Advance fare.

By my understanding, if my first booked leg is to London Bridge and the second is from Liverpool St., I can continue my journey northbound on Thameslink to Farringdon and then use the Elizabeth Line eastbound to Liverpool St. as this part of the journey would be wholly covered by the ticket's cross-London transfer provision with the maltese cross.

I assume this would also apply in reverse where the booked advance ends at Stratford and begins again at London Bridge (Eliz from Stratford to Farringdon, and Thameslink to London Bridge).

Yes, the Elizabeth line is fine to use as the cross London part of an Advance ticket, as is Thameslink.

But worth noting, if you're in a hurry, the walk from the Elizabeth Line platforms at Liverpool Street to the mainline concourse is rather long.

So long, in fact, that it is quicker by several minutes to use the Circle/Hammersmith & City/Metropolitan line from Farringdon to Liverpool Street because it will give you a much faster transfer at both stations.

Northern+Central lines changing at Bank is liable to be faster still.

That's a very long walk isn't it at Bank

It's better than it used to be now, with the new moving walkway and escalators between the Northern and Central. However, given the fairly long/congested access at London Bridge and the time this will take, I'd choose either of the other routes discussed if at all possible, especially with luggage.

The advice to use the Circle/Met/H&C at Farringdon for a faster interchange en route to Liverpool St is well taken if speed is of the essence: time taken to reach the Elizabeth line platforms more than offsets the speed of the new service for such short trips. However, on the return if you're changing at Stratford then Liz line to Farringdon makes sense.

On the return, just take the Jubilee Line direct from Stratford to London Bridge.

Undeniably correct. Sorry, my regular destinations are on through Thameslink trains and I have a strong bias toward getting a seat. OP’s situation is different.
