I think being "addicted" to the forum kind of comes with the moderator position! It is usually the first site I visit when I go onto the PC. On a side note its nice to hear people are happy with the moderation :)

I'd call it more of a responsibility! I tend to pop on in the morning and check all is ok - quite often we have one or two bits of spam to deal with which has appeared overnight. Then in the day, I'll pop on using my phone if I'm out, or at work during breaks/lunch, to check that WW3 hasn't broken out on the forum! However, I (and the other staff) don't have time to check every post or thread - we do have lives out of here (unlike one or two of the members it seems :P ...)!

I've been spending about 2 hours on here twice a day. Some replies in the fares section take forever to type up and edit. Am I addicted?

Once on the MSE site it took me 2 hours just to type up one reply having had to check and recheck what I put down.

I can see how the ticket and routeing experts can become 'addicted'. It must take ages to reply to just one single question because of the complex nature of the fare and routeing systems and hence the research required. I take my hat off to all of them :)

Agreed - there are some hardcore dedicated contributors. But that - and the sheer variety of topics, coupled with much dry wit and banter - is why I keep coming back.

I'm not in the addict-league (but the first step of rehab is recognising one's an addict...). I have a 10-15 minute look, via my phone, whilst commuting home; and then a longer look late-evening and at weekends.

Couldn't have put it any better myself :)

I've got a daily posting average of about 7.50. I've slowed down since I reached 1,000, but I did get a message from Yorkie, when my daily post count was higher than the four trailing posters put together. ;)

So I'm probably slightly addicted!

P.S.: Yorkie has fulfilled my request.

What request?

That was a specific message to Jordy ;) Easier than sending a PM or VM.

You've got a way to go yet! ;) A certain Liverpudlian posted the following after I had been a member for barely 50 hours...

Ivo, I think 32.33 posts per day has to be some sort of record!

Being in the US d' A, I probably look like I am on at odd times.
But I only check once a day at most.

Actual a bit less right now as I am suddenly retired and have lots o' other paperwork to handle.
[Since the last 9 months of my last job (computer server admin) involved doing only about 10 minutes a day of work, I had plenty of time to check the forums every day. When I asked managers about my lack of work, they said I was a "bench player" and would be put in when needed - which didn't happen. But it sure paid good!

I am a member of several other rail forums located in the UK. None in the US.
So you could say I am addicted to UK rail-related interests. Have tonnes (tons) of books and videos on the subject.

Now that I am retired, I do hope to get involved with a local railway museum down the hill from my house. No running trains, but lots of restored and hopefullyt-to-be-restored items.
[My avatar is me climbing up to the cab of a diesel unit there.]

Post deletion - I couldn't do it because I was on my phone.

A post of my own I should add; I have never requested the deletion of another user's post. Except for one instance last year which is best forgotten (it was troll-related; even RUK isn't immune to them)...

You think they're tame when the person in question was advertising what seemed to be a phone scam? I seem to remember that my Skype detected that the number provided was from Ghana! I can't remember too much about it though, and - courtesy of my well-publicised overuse of PMs (both to and from me) - have recently deleted the PMs I sent and received relating to the incident. D'oh!

The same post appeared all over the site that night!

That's just a spammer, not a troll ;)

I would say that I'm quite addicted at the moment but that's probably because it's the school holidays (only 3 days left :( ). Also it might be because I go on my iPod so I can get to this site easily :)

Well, I've been a semi occasional poster since August 2009. I've noticed that when I'm at uni, quite a long time can elapse before I access the forum again (I think my record is about two months!) due to uni work and other commitments.

When I'm not living at my term time address, I spend more time on the forum. At the moment, I'm using the forum as a substitute to revision (got exams next month!)

Yes, it's getting towards the 2nd semester and finals exam time so get cracking with the revision! I remember those times with both pain and pleasure

I access the site on my phone more than my computer. But that's not addiction - only because I'm at a loose end for a minute and feel like checking up what's going on.

I sure don't think I can be an addict as I've been on this forum for many years but have fewer posts than members that have been here for a fraction of that time.

I tend to only access NR General Discussion, Traction and Rolling Stock, Infrastructure, the photography ones and sometimes here.

I normally post from my laptop, as it's not always easy typing the right stuff on my Iphone! I'm still getting used to the method of touch screen texting.

I've been on here since November 2010. Though I only started using the forum regularly in March.

Although Ive been a long time lurker, I've really been posting regularly only since February - partially as I've found myself with more spare time, and once I started posting I just really got into it, and now can't stop even though I need to...3 assignments due in the next 2 weeks! :P
