Acton Main Line to Acton Wells Jct electrification

Just looked on AIVR. 29/11/2005.

This is now connected at Acton Wells Jc and the crossover on the UP side of Acton Main Line. Theoretically through trains could now operate.
It is not connected on the down side end of Acton ML via the freight sidings as the cables just end before the underpass over junction.
Is there a placing into service date known for the full section?

This video includes a virtual flythrough of the scheme and dates for energisation and entry into service.

Great video. So energisation on Dec 27th and test trains likely ( but not stated) January, February and March.

That's when it will be fully energised and ready for testing, snagging and handover to maintenance etc. It wont be available for service trains quite yet.

Pretty much. :)

It should be available for normal traffic by Easter.

Loving the typo in there. "Acton Drive-under"

Diversion of (electric) passenger trains during OOC construction is mentioned in the video, but that's not planned is it?
There's still no electrified link into Euston or the West London Line, only to the North London Line for ECS and potentially freight moves.
Bi-modes will still be needed to reach Euston.

Would be a Very long diversion but they could stick some electric trains into Liverpool st once the electrification is available for service trains.

The diversion is to allow 345 units operating Ealing - western destinations shuttles to get back to depots either OOC or Ilford for maintenance rather than in service passenger use.

Not sure if the 80x diverted into Euston will use this electrification but they will still have to revert to diesel, as there is a non-electrified section beyond Acton Wells on that route.

This was described back earlier in this thread, where a key problem on such short connections is installing neutral sections between the different electrification systems in place where they are not impractical given signals, gradients, junctions, etc.

Yes, but… that issue is resolved with this electrification.

Were the stretch through Willesden SW sidings electrified, it would all be on the same feeder AIUI, ie Acton Lane. (i might be wrong of course).

Would you not want to still have a neutral section on the Willesden SWS so that a problem at Willesden West London Jn didn't require an emergency switch off of the North London line though?

They're both Acton Lane but on each of the two different feeds at Acton Lane, hence why there's a neutral section at Metre Bridge Jnc as W.L. Jnc to North Pole is on the same feed as WCML.

You don’t necessarily need a neutral for that, but i hadn’t realised the feeding arrangements so yes you would need one. Easy enough to provide though.

Electrifying the South West sidings would only happen with LO West Orbital route which plan to rebuild the sidings as the new line's new stabling point. Would be interesting to see where they put a neutral section as it might be a bit constrained planning for low speed movements into those sidings. I think they want to put a third line over Grand Union Canal to access the sidings

Well I took a trip to London yesterday to ride on the Elizabeth From Tottenham Court Road took the Lizzie eastbound then westbound . In the Acton Main Line area there was huge activity. Still piles with masts and nothing attached to them and piles and masts lying on the ground. I saw six cranes. Now of course, not all this will be in connection with the electrification but encouraging- I am not convinced the infrastructure is ready for test trains though.

I'd imagine much of what you saw would likely be for Old Oak Common.

I found this cabride video along the line from early January. The electrification looks pretty much complete. Starts from the 45:30 mark.

Yes, you are probably correct. Lots of new Galv visible and not much aged.

OT but as an aside I only saw one headspan as opposed to portals and TTCs heading to Paddington so that project is progressing nicely too.

Absolutely, great to see the conversion to independent registration marching along. They've converted a lot more of them to MIRs between OOC & Paddington as well, and done rather a lot west of Southall (including converting a headspan to a mid-point anchor portal of all things!)

I got it checked on AIVR. Picture quality is poor but it's fully wired as marked in red. The link east of AML does not seem to be wired, but image quality is too poor at this time of year to be sure.
