I wouldn't have a Diesel for the same reasons given as the coupler. I would also make the argument against diesel due to environmental factors. I would however; have dual voltage (Pant/3rd rail)

I like the new 700 units. I had the opportunity to go see it recently but I declined. In retrospect I missed out and from the pictures they look real nice.

I do think the RABe 535 would be a good starting point for a regional unit. (Obv to UK size)

Is a Bombardier/Alstom joint build - they sound rather nice too, like a deeper 323 (Traction is a Holec design)

I don't know how long those carriages are, but I'm not sure having one set of doors per carriage (in the UK) would work particularly well.

Bombardier or Alstom. Probably Bombardier, they have a plant in the UK.

Probably not. It's quite rare. Considering the fact that there are no maglev tracks in the UK (and probably won't be for quite a while), I think that conventional rails would be better.

May I suggest some things for a commuter train:

• 2+3 seating (obviously). The seats don't need to be heavenly but they can't be like the ironing boards you have with the 377/6's. The 159 seats without armrests or tables and positioned a little more upright would be very good for an outer suburban commuter train.
• Tables: In standard, small tables inbetween the class 317 and 365 size, whith small flaps for airline.
• First class: Sectioned off in a compartment of 10-16 seats. Similar to standard but with armrests and full tables. Power points, reclining seats and complimentary drinks (if a trolley is available).
• Other details: Top speed should be 75-90 MPH and they should be 4 carriages long with gangways, and should be able to operate in multiple of up to 12 cars.

Gotta do a Ton. Even a 319 does 100mph. I wouldn't restrict the top speed at all. Let linespeeds decide how fast it goes but let the train perform when it can. Also it will give it flexibility to run mainlines or metro.

That is a good suggestion, and it means that the commuter train could work any outer suburban service in London.

Hiya guys,

I do really want to do this project and I am blown away by all your comments. Infact, I have made a few renders which I will share later.

I am going to make the commuter train, but I plan to do it in about a month or so away due to exam pressures.
