Has this ever been tried? Would it even be feasible or would it overload the lines?
Cheers!
All the ones I have seen, the "inside" loco has been panto down / switched offI dont think its been T+T but there have been doubble headders on IEP test trains
I know it is a few years ago now, but there were stories in the press saying that the train wouldn't have derailed (or to a lesser extent) if the 91 had been at the front and not back
Most likely just stories, as is usually the case with the press. There was no specific research carried out after the disaster to determine if that was the case, so the usual press blowing smoke up everybodies ass again! Unsubstantiated rubbish, overheard third hand, and sounded good to an editor I guess.
Although tests would have to be done, it seems relatively straight forward that the comparative weight of a 91 vs. a 82 would have meant the train would have been less likely to have become derailed.
Are the tests useful now anyway with the possobility of the IEP being scrapped altogether?
A bit like NASA cancelling Constellation, waste of what has been spent so far (in NASA's case $10Billion) but better in the long run?
