Is it an issue as with the HST nose cones where it's primarily fibreglass?

The incident was at Crown Point and apparently was yesterday. Reported that it was pushed through by a ROG 37.

Makes sense given 37608 was dragging it about yesterday, and it's clearly intact in a video of it doing it

Did wonder! Difficult to tell from a 15 second video clip, but is the damage occasioned likely to be more substantial than just replacing the nose cone assembly?

Assuming there’s no further damage than what can be seen from the video linked further up, repairing the train would likely only be a case of replacing the damaged body panels and the coupler. Modern units such as the Flirt are designed for such panels on the cabs to take such damage and be easily replaced afterwards. If there’s additional damage beyond what can be seen then it could be a more substantial repair, especially if there’s structural damage to the main bodyshell rather than just the cab sub-assembly.

ROG's Peggy & Percy (37611 & 37601) are en route with a VSTP (0xxx) from Derby RTC to Crown Point.
Just passed Peterborough and confirmed with Mk1 eyeballs.

Unsure if this is related to rescuing the stricken Flirt or it it's some other matter.

It’s quite ridiculous that European trains can get this much damage after a small-speed shunt in a thin depot buffer stop.

Trains, like cars, are designed with parts intended to deform in a collision to dissipate energy in as safe a manner as possible.

American crash-worthiness standards are even more stringent than european ones, yet American trains come out of crashes much better than European ones.

IF USA standards are more stringent then it stands to reason their trains would come out better. But what are you basing that opinion on?

Probably a good thing given the regularity with which rail accidents happen in the US.

So, what we can all agree on. A train that is built to the standard of a Nato main battle tank but rather than reactive armour over the conventional steel facet type would be a good metre or two of aluminium sacrificial crumple zone covered in a hard fibre glass shell for aesthetics. Seats inside will be the 1940's sprung type with seat belts, side impact airbags and an airbag in the rear of the seat in front.

Sounds great....Until you meet a German Tiger or Panzer at 100+mph then I might regret that decision....

Because old British stuff looks so good after hitting buffer stops...
