73109 was shunting 2423 (in bits and still branded) into the maintenance shed this morning and now unbranded 2418 is now parked up next to a still branded 2416 at Bournemouth.

A move is on the cards but no news as of yet.

Cheers

2423 is in the maintenance shed ......... well bits are. The MBLS is up on jacks and minus wheels 'n' motors etc.

I asked the super' why and he replied that it was having the motors and wheelsets changed before being sent to Eastleigh.

DTS and TSW are on 1 road.

DTF and TSO are outside with 73109

Piccies to follow.

Oh - and the VEP Gordon Petitt is on 1 road too looking very smart. Still no news as to where it's going yet.

444 042 is :hiding: in the maintenance shed too.

16 & 18 still outside with 18 moved behind 16 now.

I was told a while back that Gordon Petitt himself was deciding where 3417 was off to, but the decision was postponed until he came back from holiday in Australia , but apparently definately not the NRM.

Wouldn't be surprised if it goes off to Swanage or somewhere with another slam door EMU... now, if only it had CDL for the Lymington... ;)

Gordon Pettit's a hell of a nice bloke and a proper railwayman.

When they used to have specials such as a naming ceromony he would make a point of shaking the traincrews' hands first before the digniataries and making sure they had some food and drink too.

I sent him a uniform idea when he was the General Manager of BR and he sent me 2 free 1st class tickets for anywhere in the country. So I took my dad to Inverness - all the way from Bomo on a HST.

He also introduced me to Sir Robert Reid - former BR Chairman on my train one day.

I've never even seen Souter !

Yep, I'll agree with you totally there.

Sadly in the deformed privatised railway which has been created, it's 'profit profit profit profit we run trains profit profit profit profit', sorry, did I mention profit? :)

Take a trip on the Portsmouth line at the moment on a meet the manager session...

Nah - but sérieusement - you know people in funny places like Fraggle Rock. Could they not offer to take them off ANGEL's hands or negotiate a very favourable leasing deal?

There was due to be a 442 move today (it was in the system) but it failed to materialise for some strange reason.

Also Gatex has the 442's, not all of them possibly 10? Well who ever owns Gatex these days!!!

Aparently this is the reason why the 442's never came out to play on Wedensday:-

Its been mentioned that Angel trains have made an offer to South West Trains to take the Class 442 fleet back on for an undisclosed fee and full refurbishment that will cost SWT nothing, that should bring the seating arrangements up to about 360 seat capacity with the removal of the snug and buffet area. More than the class 444's 270 seats. This could be between 16 & 20 units which would be enough for the planned 2 trains per hour to Weymouth thats due to start around the December 2007 timetable. Its thought that Angel Trains are eager for South West trains to take the units at a very cheap price and free refurb due to the storage costs of the 442's at Eastleigh are very high. If this is correct then some of the 444's would be cascaded back onto the Pompey line thus making quite a few people on that line very happy indeed. Its not been mentioned on whether South West Trains will take this offer up.

That makes total sense to me. It must be costing a fortune to rent siding space for storage plus presumably have some form of security and someone to keep an eye on equipment. Yet they are sitting there doing nothing, not earning any lease payments, and with little real prospect of all sets being used. The nearest analogy is a pal of mine who wants to expand his sweet shop business. He sells sweets from all over the place that you cannot get elsewhere, i.e. a niche market. There are plenty of empty Mall shop units around where the landlords are prepared to offer free refurb of empty units, and rent-free periods simply to attract a tenant who will firstly pay future rent and secondly encourage further tenants in to an otherwise deserted Mall: no shops - no punters; no punters - no shops!

Pity that the lovely buffet area would go! It was the safe haven for me when I commuted to Waterloo years ago off-peak when you could get a seat and have room to stretch.
