Does anyone know if the 380s made it through the tunnel in time for tomorrow?

Not yet AFAIK but I would expect them just before midnight - only after then would I worry. But the 380s have been known to arrive about two hours before departure time from Dollands Moor. If they leave Dollands Moor on a Monday (which has become the norm) they seem to come through the tunnel on Saturday evening. I only read into that the possibility that nothing happens in France on a Sunday (I know lorry movements are banned on Sundays in France).

On the negative I am not aware that 7X80 is in the timetable plans for Wed/Thu. The original Monday 7X80 was inserted in the plans a couple of days before Monday and then cancelled Sunday night if I remember correctly. Confusingly 7X80 has I think been set up within hours of departure time in the past. All I can say at the moment is that apart from the scot-rail site there are no indications that any 380s will come anytime soon. I have never come across information of actuall movements further East than Frethun. We never know when the delivery sets off from Siemens.

This week and next week the northbound 7X80 were due to operate on the Wednesday, rather than the Monday

However, both have been cancelled, the next will operate 09 May 2011, putting the final delivery 06 June 2011

Thanks for the info rail-britain.

Wonder why they are not delivering for two weeks. I got the feeling that all bugs are ironed out and that the railways in Scotland is now keen to get them all. I base this on the info on the scot-rail site. It shows that all the units so far delivered have completed testing (the last two in less than a week). Still only 10 accepted but all the other 20 out of 30 units delivered are "available for hire". I assume that means testing of the later deliveries has become a formality. But then why aren't they hireing more than a third of those so far delivered ?.

Perhaps we are only supposed to get the impression that all is fine and dandy ?.

The Class 380 is a test-bed for the next order for units on EGIP, these units being almost identical but rated at 125mph

How are they overcoming the issue of loosing seats by having to have a crumple zone? Will they use 125mph units on all electric services out of Queen Street?

The proposal is for there to be two types of units
Yes, the specification is for 125mph versions of the current Class 380 unit
The proposal is for these units to operate in a five or six coach fixed formation, with one entire coach of First Class
The remaining units will be 100mph, again almost identical to the current Class 380 unit

The service frequency between Glasgow QS and Edinburgh is proposed at 6 trains per hour, ie every 10 minutes, so although five coaches will initially increase capacity and be cheaper six coaches may also be required at peak times
A small loss compared to a current pair of Class 170 units, but an increase off-peak, and an overall increase throughout the day
Just need to wait until 2014 to see how much money is (not) available

You will also note that there is now a vacancy for the Project Manager, although I suspect this may be a formality (as the Class 380 introduction project comes to an end in June)

Really? I think you'll note that if you go to the TS website that they have no current vacancies:
http://www.transportscotland.gov.uk/careers/vacancies

And ScotRail don't have anything matching that description either:

You need to know where to look...
This position is readvertised until 01 July 2011
http://www.transportscotland.gov.uk/jobs/roles/project-manager-egip
I really suspect TS are trying to hide things and/or make it difficult for people to find

This is not a ScotRail position, as it has nothing to do with them (at this stage)
However EGIP does now appear on the ScotRail franchise meetings as development work may impact the current routes

Ah. I am guessing but judging by the parent link I guess its one of a few INTERNAL vacancies/job-descriptions (http://www.transportscotland.gov.uk/jobs/roles) rather than an externally advertised job vacancy.

It is illegal (and has been for many years) to advertise any vacancy internally only, it must be advertised externally for either at least 7 days or half the length of time (rounded up to the nearest full day) the internal advert was posted
Companies (and government bodies) use some really obscure methods to advertise their vacancies externally, knowing full well they will get no applicants or any that do apply they can reject
Even our company uses these methods, and they are perfectly legal, making a complete mockery of the requirement

Actually I think you'll find that ScotRail have been part of the EGIP development for quite some time. And some aspects of EGIP will be completed during the current franchise term.

And if you go to the "Apply" page, it states the closing date is May 2009!

I appreciate that side of it, but it has great parallels to other projects managed by TS
ScotRail obviously have to be involved in EGIP as it progresses, but there has been very little discussion at franchise meetings
However, later this year this will change greatly as the work details from Network Rail become available (including some closures affecting Glasgow QS)

Well I never Ewan, youre right. All eight of the roles have a closing date of 8th May 2009 !!!. This was a Friday in 2009 so the year is correct (i.e. not a typo). I will stick to these roles being the second half of my "vacancies/job-descriptions" excuse then.

As above, they have been relisted with new closing dates
Hence why the old pages were reactivated

380018 & 019 are at Frethun this morning ( Fri 29/04/2011 a.m). This is the yard on the French side of the tunnel. They could make 7X80 delivery today but its more likely to be Tuesday and this fits in with scot-rail. But I would put a small bet on today !!.

So could that see more class 334 units cascaded from Ayrshire/Inverclyde routes to Airdrie/Bathgate duties as well as seeing more class 318 units on Argyle Line duties as well as the promised 8 class 320 units for Argyle Line duties?

Not now, next cascade planned for May timetable change as already discussed
No change with Class 320 units, which will remain on North Clyde until at least August 2011

Looks like someone has updated the dates for the next batch of deliveries on the scot-rail.co.uk website such that the final two units, 380115 and 380116, arriving one week after the next timetable has commenced (previously the same week)

Looking at how long the minimum has been from recenty deliveries to entering service it is about 3 weeks
380010 was the most recent

Therefore I would expect 380115 or 380116 to enter service around the second week of June
This could see the Ayr Line be handed over entirely to Class 380 units by the end of June

So what will that mean for the remaining class 318/class 334 units on the Ayrshire Coast services?

Apparently the next pair for delivery got badly vandalised in Germany about Friday 06/05/2011. I have not noted them arriving, they were expected 9-10/05/2011 (scot-rail site). Apologies for not posting earlier but work got in the way . Can any one else confirm if they did not make it (scot-rail still expects them today but its a bit late !).

So it appears that 380020 & 021 were bad enough not to be delivered 10/05/2011. The next pair (022 & 114) are due 16-17/05/2011 (scot-rail) and the final pair (115 & 116) to be delivered were expected to be on 23-24/05/2011 (scot-rail). The question is how soon/late after the last, planned, delivery will the vandalised pair be ready ?.

Unless they got through and left Dollands Moor at 1315 yesterday (unlikely), then as of 1400 yesterday, there were no units at Dollands Moor.

Looks like there is a 7X80 (380 delivery) scheduled for Friday (i.e. depart Dollands Moor at 13:15 on 13/05/2011). Now if this is not the pair originally expected on Monday 09/05/2011 then those must be badly damaged AND Scotrail must be desperate for 380s. Given that 28 of them are already available the May timetable change seems to be when the 380s and all cascades will be (almost) completed. If its not Friday then it was supposed to be next Monday (16/05/2011) anyway !.

The gen on scot-rail was that 7X80 would run, but not sure about which units are coming north.

Even though most of the units will have arrived, they won't all be in service. There will be an increase in mid May compared to at present, but there will still only be a limited number of diagrams operated by 380s each day.
