Personally I'm looking forward to trying the class 380 Siemens seem to have it cracked when it comes to Emu's, remember having a go on the West Yorkshire's very own class 333 and being very impressed.

Lets hope the air conditioning ducts are not as noisy as Alstom class 334's and no Disastrous into service problems!

380105 passed Newton quite late this morning, I believe. I'd been waiting for a good half hour, and right when the train I decided to take home arrived, 7X80 passed, so the pictures I took were poor as I was in a hurry, and didn't come out well.

According to information posted on Scot-rail, they'll be doing late night runs on the Ayrhisre and Inverclyde lines from the week beginning 20th September. Don't know if it's passenger workings or just empties, though.

Yeah, looks that way now I've read some replies. There're 334s going out the week before for comparison purposes. Nevertheless, will be interesting to see them touring their new stomping grounds.

(And, to be honest, I'd have been surprised if the first passenger working was going to be 22: something-or-other to Gourock on a Tuesday night - I imagine Mr Stevenson'll want a big press launch).

The same was done when the Ayrline electrification was nearing completion, it saved a Class 318 clogging up Shields depot
At peak times there were quite often "front trains" from that platform

In effect the services can commence as soon as ALL of the platform extensions are completed AND approved
I've been viewing a few between Paisley and Ayr, the end of September is more likely

I have made a separate request to TS for full details for the Class 380 introduction, a more detailed response is due on Tuesday, as they couldn't respond last week as they were still unsure if the introduction was to be put back from last week of September to the second week of October
This will also include the promotional service for the Friday (hopefully I will be getting some tickets, and have now booked that day off work)

They do look ugly to me, but it doesn't matter as long as they work, are reliable and look good inside (with a good level of comfort).

Get that right, and body will care one single bit - and of course some people will love the look anyway.

Sorry guys but your wrong. Currently Bombardier and Siemens are the only two bidders left currently for the new 'NXEMU' for Thameslink.

They are coming in two batches with the first still on. The second batch which basically is to allow the extra routesto be run is on hold.

Then again the first train isn't due till mid 2012 and is expected to carry its first passengers in mid 2014 so there is still plenty of time for orders to be places as well as the whole thing to change.

Agreed!

New trains release existing EMUs to other routes (including the Bathgate line) which releases DMUs elsewhere... just what we need more of

I don't mind the look of the 380s, my one complaint is that they are yet another class of EMU - we seem to be building lots of little classes in recent years (I appreciate that not everyone needs the same top speed/ doors/ seating, but...)

I had a few trips on Class 350 units earlier in the week
They are quite impressive and ultimately have a better and quieter ride than the Class 334

The drivers view from the Class 350 is quite similar to that from the Class 318 (when they had gangways)
I would expect the drivers view from the Class 380 to be slightly better
However, I am wondering how rainfall will affect this design as the water may actually run UP the windscreen!
