I thought people were debating the route availability, and the loading guage is 'W6A' if that means anything to anyone.

There's no worry about loading gauge, MK3s gave been down before, 175s have been down before, but only as an emergency stock move.

The only thing that poses a problem is are there any coaches around?

As been said before, Cargo-D and or DRS can supply coaches. Though of course that could differ in time.

(Sorry about all the questions, i'm not up to speed with Arriva stuff these days  )

They didn't sell them, there at Long Marston in store. Still under Arriva ownership IIRC

It would make sense if those coaches are used on the new Grand Union services, specially if they are going to be TnT. As these coaches are wired all the way through aren't they.

Yea they are still owned by ATW, but aren't they meant to be used with 57/3's on CDF - Holyheads that ATW have a Grant for.....?

I'd not heard of this before! Knew that ATW were looking to make Cardiff-Holyhead a 'premier' service, hence all the rumours about them and the 180's. Certainly would be good to see something loco hauled back on the north wales route though! How many 57's and mk.2 sets?
Or is it just unsubstantiated rumour?

I read it in Rail Express. 57/3's and MK2 Stock. I heard that there was to be a buffet and FC. Ran Mon - Fri

There were some that were through wired however these ones were the set that used to do the S&C diagram for Arriva Northern and when that finished they got transfered to the Welsh sector of the company when the service ceased and the set worked on the Rhymneys and occasionally on Gloucester shuttles. However when the Rhymney service finished but several rakes were needed on ruggex's (Or in July when 2 sets of four were needed to go to Fishguard and Rhymney and a set of 6 to go to Llandridod) they had more done up and painted so I presume the sets got mixed and only a few are through wired. I seem to remember some of the ones painted later had light blue doors where as the earlier ones had white doors or summat like that.

Are you sure about that, given that a very high percentage of tours over the line have been RA6+ locos for a good fifteen years? Its certainly not a 'strict' RA 5 line!

Tours are OK as they are one off non-regular type affairs, any timetabled regular service would need a NRAP certificate to run.
