The 1353 Victoria - East Grinstead (worked by 377617 + 618) overshot the platform at Riddlesdown due to railhead conditions, resulting in a 15 - 20 minute delay. When the driver was on the phone to the signaller, a fault was discovered where the P.A. system caused interference with the cab telephone, and I presume this is why the diagram was cancelled later in the day.

Also the 1617 Victoria - Horsham (due to be worked by 377614) was cancelled due to no driver.

Not a good day for the 377/6s.

Seen at Brighton this afternoon, 377 614 had no anti-macassars in First Class. The sole indicator of that section being First was a few window stickers. Quite a honey pot for the PF inspectors!

There is a feature on Southern in December's Modern Railways. It promises the following routes for 10-car services:

Victoria - Dorking/ Horsham via Hackbridge and Epsom
Victoria - Epsom Downs via Norbury
Victoria - West Croydon via Streatham Hill
Victoria - London Bridge via Streatham Hill and Crystal Palace
London Bridge - Epsom/ Guildford via Norwood Junction
London Bridge/ Victoria - Caterham/ Tattenham Corner

So, will these be the routes to use class 377/6s? I hope that at least from May they operate regularly on Saturdays too!

That what Southern announced in September.

http://www.southernrailway.com/southern/news/southerns-new-train-enters-service/

Although the DfT said the same thing in July.

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/commuters-to-benefit-from-state-of-the-art-electric-trains

The Guildford service will replace a 8 car 377 and the Caterham/Tattenham Corner are expected to spilt at Purely with 5 cars to each.

EDIT :

Update on units.

601-603/616/625/626 remain at Derby.

624 is at Wembley and should move over on Monday.

There is two moves booked for this week with a 3rd possible if they wanted via the old 377/5 delivery path (which has been used to move one 377/6 down, can't remember which but was the one that came down behind a 57).

So its looking like 23 units will have left Derby prior to the timetable change. Its possible that all 26 units will be commissioned by the end of the year. That might prove useful over the Christmas period when East Grinstead gets an extra 2tph non stop to Croydon if some extra
377/6 are around for use to free more 4 car 377s up.

EDIT 2:

The 0935 Brighton - Victoria service is formed of 377/6s, same units as yesterday days runs (619/614). First Sunday working for the class.

Any idea what other services its on with that diagram? Is it likely to shuttle between Vic & Brighton all day?

I don't know sorry. I only found out by accident when I was delayed heading into Brighton and saw the units there.

On Yahoo groups its been stated

617/618 should have moved to Selhurst
611/620 should be moved to Horsham where they sit until the 8th Dec where they will run 2E05 06:20 Horsham - Victoria
614/619 finish service tonight on the 2305 Brighton - Victoria service.

Thankfully the Guildford to London Bridge is looking to be a 10 car then. I have driven it a few times and the 8 car by the time you get to Sutton is jam packed and there is still 4 stations (Carshalton Beeches, Wallington, W. Croydon and Norwood Jct) to stop at before it goes fast to LB.

The return working always looks very busy out of London Bridge too, the 1729. That's one currently an 8-car 455, hopefully it will go up to a 10 car too.

Basically all metro routes except via Tulse Hill due to platform length restrictions.

You will probably find most peak time metro services via Tulse Hill being 8 455 from December 9th.....

The new guards panel looks a lot smarter... I still think bombardiers panels are a terrible design as you have to whack passengers in the face to open them ;)

Saying that.. them walking into the panels on the 1 and 3 series that sticks out always makes me giggle :D

Quick update for anyone who might be interested...

The 2103 London Victoria to Epsom (Via Hackbridge) Monday to Friday train looks like a Class 377 / 6 if it is not on the list then you can mention it. Cannot remember what was the number as was in a rush to get that service but went on it recently.

Also the 2233 London Victoria to Epsom (Via Hackbridge) looks like using a regular 377 / 6 class since been on it a few times.

The 22:33 from Victoria to Epson is part of the diagram SU907 in my/our list of diagrams.

I will add the other service in a list of others. I do think Southern might be putting a few more 377/6s into service prior to the timetable change judging by the announcements - but have not gone for proof yet.

Noted today:-
377613 at West Croydon at 15:03 ish on Sutton-Victoria (SU907).
377617 at East Croydon at 15:43 on East Grinstead to Victoria (SU903/904).
377618 ditto.
377605 at West Croydon at 17:07 on service from London Bridge (SU905/906).
377614 ditto.
377621 at West Croydon at 17:35 on service from London Bridge (SU901/902).
377619 ditto.

This now means, according to my stock list, 14 have been used in service so available. Two more imminent as at Selhurst. Four in the Southeast on test and only Six left to deliver !.

There been a few extras out including a special 10 car 22:17 Selhurst to Victoria last night as a football extra (619/620).

Platform extensions are now complete.

377625 left Derby last night with another unit due at the end of the week.

That will leave 4 at Derby so all 26x 377/6 should be with us by Christmas.

I was on a 377/3 today down to Pompey quite a surprise! surely this is unusual now?

I was not aware till now the large tables have been ripped out replaced with small side tables however this works well as it gives the illusion of more leg room.

The side panels are dark blue (like on ex connex spec 377/1s) and not the much lighter blue applied to refreshed 377/4 and /2 units. Apparently the darker shade was a design mistake in the refurbishment which seems strange rather like the yellow not lilac doors on a repainted southeastern 465.

Will we ever see 377/6s on the west coastway? If 377/3s can turn up!

It is quite unusual to get 377/3s to Portsmouth now, but it does still happen a fair bit. The 377/3s still seem to manage to make it down to the Coastway to work vice 313s. It's less likely a 377/6 will turn up because AFAIK they aren't going to couple with the rest of the 377s in normal circumstances.

377missed at West Croydon at 15:03 ish on Sutton-Victoria (SU907).
377617 at East Croydon at 15:43 on East Grinstead to Victoria (SU903/904).
377618 ditto.
377615 at West Croydon at 17:07 on service from London Bridge (SU905/906).
377612 ditto.
377619 at West Croydon on 17:04 to Epsom Downs running late so terminating at Belmont (NEW USE).
377614 at West Croydon at 17:35 on service from London Bridge (SU901/902).
377622 ditto.

First time out AFAIK for 615 and 622.

I have added the extra working to my/our list of diagrams.

That's the plan. Plenty of splitting and joining in the new timetable just within class. However they can couple to other 377s if required.

Noted today Wednesday 04/12/2013 :-

377612 ditto.
377619 NEW USE at West Croydon on 17:04 to Epsom Downs running late so terminating at Belmont.
377614 at West Croydon at 17:35 on service from London Bridge (SU901/902).
377622 ditto.

As many that have been in service as there will be in daily service come Monday.

619 looks like it was on the 15:53 Victoria - Epsom Downs service which will be a 10 car 377/6 in the final diagrams.

608/623 were spotted on test in the afternoon (which is unusual as most afternoon runs have been cancelled).
