Anyone know what regular diagrams the new 377 units will be on mon to fri, I commute daily from Haywards Heath to the city and I always look to travel on 377s and avoid 319 wherever possiable

When you say "new 377 units", do you mean 377/6 or 377/7 (not that there's much difference between them...)?

377/6's do a lot of inner and outer Metro work and from what I've personally observed is that 377/7's do some Metro work and share Croydon - Milton Keynes WLL diagrams with 377/2's.

I often see a 377/7 now at London Bridge early morning which (I think) does Metro work first thing before working 07.44 to East Croydon and then taking up Milton Keynes diagram for the rest of the day.

I'm not sure if any "new 377's" work to Haywards Heath (only the '1s, 4's and 5's) but I expect more knowledgeable members here will advise you

Anyway, what's wrong with 319's!? Lovely noisy motors if you can get a good fast run up the Quarry

Someone has just removed 'Class' from 'First Class' on the furthest unit!

One way of doing it I suppose.

Of course, come September, when all mentions of the old TOC have to go - I expect we'll see all FCC trains sporting signs saying 'Class'.... :D

I bet a lot of Thameslink users in 2006 were amused to see route maps showing stations renamed as 'King's Cross' and 'City' as someone took the instructions a little too literally.

One point of interest for anybody wanting to see the green 377s on the Thameslink route. For the past two days two consecutive northbound services have been formed of pairs of 377/2s, passing through central London within a few minutes of each other.

1) 1618 Elephant & Castle - Bedford (Blackfriars 1622, St Pancras 1632)
2) 1507 Brighton - Bedford (Blackfriars 1626, St Pancras 1636)

At least they didn't put 'First King's Cross' and 'First City' :P

True, although it was Govia/Go-ahead having to remove their name before the franchise change than First coming in after to do it, or else we probably would have seen that!

I wonder how long it will be until First start removing their branding? There's not that much time go to now.

Thanks for the info re todays working this is really helpful

Most of these movement have been operated by 377s over the last year or so and are marked as 377's in the timetable.

As the 377/2 which have recently moved from Southern are being used for these movements does it mean some of the other existing FCC 377/2 and 377/5 (Which are in FCC colours) are being used on other allocations?

As a commuter on this route i was hoping that now FCC have 6 addational 377 they would use these on fixed diagrams each day. I normally try and plan my journey to avoid the 319's espcially in the hot wether

You'll never know which end it is though. I think they started with the northern end being declassified but now it's a gamble, which must be annoying for both first and standard class ticket holders alike.

Until very recently, waiting at the far north end of the platform at St Pancras would always get me the declassified compartment on a 377 - however I've noticed in the last couple of weeks that First Class is now here sometimes. It's rare that the announcement / screen will tell you where First Class is, why can they not enable this for all trains?

And why isn't there a yellow stripe above first class on the 377/5s, so the location of this compartment is clear to passengers as the train arrives? The only external marking is a grey/silver disc, which is rather lost against the livery.

On the GN side, first class has never been announced as being available or where it is. However, besides at the start, I've not had a 321 with first class at anything other the London end (the only train where it could be one or the other).

I assume the TL side has many routes that can mean a train ending up in reverse, so wonder if there's any way to properly announce where first class is - which must be especially complicated if an 8 or 12 car set with first all over the place.

on West Anglia stations it's quite common to see eg "1st class in 1st & 6th carriage" or "1st class in 1st, 5th & 9th carriage" on platform displays. Both 317 and 379 services. More complicated with 317s as in each unit it could be in 1st or 4th (/1 and /7) or 2nd or 3rd (/5 and /8) and a formation may have one of each.

They don't bother with FCC at Cambridge though- could end up with "1st class in 1st, 4th, 5th, 8th, 9th and 12th carriages" as 365s have a small compartment at each end!

The failure to use a yellow stripe to denote first class as a national standard is yet another symptom of fragmentation - the FCC purple livery is one of the worst when it comes to spotting the first class section - the small silver disc (which is hidden anyway when the doors are open!) is next-to-useless.

Waiting at St Albans, I've often heard announcements for 'First Class is located in the first carriage etc etc' However, as you say, I've never heard it announced at St Pancras.

West Hampstead Control issue a list each day where the location of the first class is, and, where they have direct control of the CIS, advertise accordingly.
Similarly, Brighton do the same for peak northbound FCC services.
At other stations en-route, it is more miss than hit!

You sometimes get an announcement at St Pancras. Middle and rear always used to mean a 377. On 12 cars at St Pancras I think it shows the coach numbers? Also seem to remember hearing "front, middle and rear" but this might have been an 8 car 377 before half the compartments were declassified.

The system has many options you can put in. Or just do free text.

Before one end was declassified, it was easy to say front middle and rear (well on a 8-car set). Not sure what it ever said on a 12-car, as there comes a point where what you say is going to be confusing and too long.

I do think it's a bit awkward when you have sets joined up, and you walk into the declassified first class and through into the next set, which is now first class (or could be, not always!) and you might not instantly notice - especially if it's busy and the antimacassars are obstructed.
