Apparently it was cancelled because the unit isn't fitted with GSMR.

Even without the answer about the GSMR (bit of a major oversight surely?) the fatality was around lunchtime; the train was due to leave Doncaster mid morning.

Now that's a good move. Let's refurbish a unit to use as a demonstrator, and forget to put one fairly major piece of equipment into it. Oops! :roll:

GSMR doesn't come under the C6 programme, it should have been done at IL like the rest of the fleet, in theory before it went north I guess?

Been up north for so long though, had GSMR fitment even started when it moved up? It certainly wouldn't have been operational back then.

321448 went north in October 2012 - GSMR wasn't mandatory back then so even if fitment had started, this particular set may not have been done.

Bah, send someone into Tesco and buy a prepay GSM phone for £9.99 and a £10 top-up card. Shove it in a Thomas and Friends case, give it to the driver, and job done.

I don't know. Yet again, it takes someone not working in the railway industry to find a quick and easy fix. ;)

Whilst it could, it would be cheaper to do it as they have. Fitting GSM-R would need to be done anyway, you might as well do it now. However hiring a diesel locomotive and barrier wagons would be expensive. I'd imagine though that the entry into service won't have been affected much by this niggle? Or would it have caused a snowball effect of delays, as so often happens nowadays (eg 458/5)

i waited til 2:00 at stratford and then thought its cancelled again then i found out it went through stratford at about 2:30 so i really regreted leaving at that time

It is currently on its way south to Ilford. Being hauled by a loco to Peterbrough before working the rest of the way under its own power.

there might not be a driver available that signs the traction and route (or a pilot for the route). Which may just be a case of rostering after all the false starts
