Notice the purple wall carpet? wonder if this was a First Group thing... Only they could come up with something so horrible and useless!
It was an Eversholt 'thing' nothing to do with First Group.

Hence why this seems to be a completely different system...Not a fan of the electronic reservations - XC seem to have problems all the time
Hence why this seems to be a completely different system...
And perhaps will experience the same sort of technical problems as XC's?
Paper tickets do the job well enough IMO.
Yeah, one system isn't a very good implementation - so let's not bother trying to improve it eh?And perhaps will experience the same sort of technical problems as XC's?
Another vote for those seats looking awful. Especially standard class. Seems like a ploy to get more people to travel business class or first class. /cynic.

Never done it in the UK yet did in Ireland last weekend booked seats in the name of Fr Ted Crilly!
At least 20 people took pics of the little screen between Dublin and Sligo! Have to put surname as first name etc for it to come up right!

Was there a square of black dirt on the train window adjacent to your seat?
Doesn't one of the ROSCOs have similar house colours. Who owns the Mk4 sets?
Are they also not the same seats but with a different headrest to those in Standard on EMT 158s and FGW HST's?
Given that nobody has yet seen an IEP, how can you know it will be awful?surely this will stop the awful IEP being foisted on the ECML .
This route really needs to be upgraded and speeds raised ,why not 140mph as origonaly intended. The catenary would have to be rebuilt from the poor quality that it is now and some curves and junctions rebuilt.
At last the MK 4 stock is to get a decent interior upgrade, one which is urgently needed.
With the class 91,s also receiving a deep rebuild and an extra pantograph surely this will stop the awful IEP being foisted on the ECML.
The Mallard refurbishment interiors are still relatively new and in my experience are always clean. In my opinion there is no way that the Mallard refurbishment can be improved upon.At last the MK 4 stock is to get a decent interior upgrade, one which is urgently needed.Looking at the pictures the first, business and premier with swiveling seats look good and even standard class has a distinct ambience with good leg room. This upgrade will provide a fleet of coaches that will fit well with the new franchise and also if cascaded onto other routes.
140mph running would require the installtion of in-cab signalling, would reduce the number of paths available for local, commuter and freight trains and would only cut the London to Edinburgh journey time by little more than ten minutes(I can't remember the exact figure) compared to the fastest time possible in regular service at 125mph.This route really needs to be upgraded and speeds raised ,why not 140mph as origonaly intended. The catenary would have to be rebuilt from the poor quality that it is now and some curves and junctions rebuilt.
Despite the fact that HS2 is being built primarily to relieve demand on the southern stretch of the West Coast main line, will eventually serve both East and West Coast destinations, and without building considerable stretches of new alignment on the ECML increasing line speeds on the route would only serve to reduce the capacity of the ECML?If this was carried out the ECML would also obiviate the need for HS2 ,although thats another story!
Eh?At last the MK 4 stock is to get a decent interior upgrade, one which is urgently needed.
Quite!The Mallard refurbishment wasn't 'decent'?

Past performance based on what? The nearest precedent that we have in this country for a high speed train made by Hitachi is the class 395, which I think are very good trains. Yet still, how can you have "past performance" from a product that has not yet been built?Past performance?
I'd prefer different seats in the Mallard, really can't get comfortable in them..
Premier class? What is that supposed to be? (Like I know what it is, but who is it marketed for, and is it the best used of capacity. Same thing as with business class.
The first class seats look good, but If there is any +2 airline seats they might be claustrophobic. Unfortunately there does seem to be an obsession with Privacy, even in first class, where it is not needed in (what is supposed to be) spacious first class.
