Or in the short term go the Gc way and just hire charter train...Given that the main issue seemed to be to do with maintenance and the timing of major exams - an issue which can only be worse with 3 trains having done significantly more miles than the other one, i guess they could hire a charter train to cover the maintenance period only.

The issue surely will be compounded because the set was recovered by the southbound HT Meridian., so there is no unit at the London end. The solution may just be to get / ask GNER to accept the tickets - GNER could have hired an HST set, except it is on summer Saturday duties with VXC!

Hmm - as I understand it, they need to get another unit by tomorrow morning - is this possible? Or will they be cancelling trains and annoying a *lot* of passengers? Better be sorted by Monday, I'm traveling on HT and would be rather unhappy to say the least if they expected me to wait near enough 2 hours for the next train to my destination.

I would imagine if it is canceled you could be within your rights to phone them and demand they change your ticket to allow GNER travel, at their cost - much nicer trains IMO!!

Can they use the undamaged vehicles from 222103 to be combined into one working set?

Oh and according to Tony Miles on uk.railway, "the two damaged vehicles from 222103 cannot be repaired and new ones are to be constructed at Bruges. Delivery in 18-24 months! "

If they can cobble the parts together they may be able to manage, but even then 2 years at 100% availability requirement is going to stretch the fleet a bit...

No need to 'phone them, GNER/Northern have to convey HT pax in such circumstances. And vice-versa, although it's nearly always GNER bailing HT out. I would imagine GNER would get some compensation for this.

surely mml can come to the rescue if only to loan a unit or two at the weekend, to cover for short falls or mainitance.

Yes, but when you rely on getting a HT service between as the next GNER one is in 2 hours time, which would then mean you have to get a later connection - I'd end up at work at 10.30am rather than 08.45am that I would otherwise.

Yeah, HT are in big trouble now they are two sets down!
Just a thought, could they combine the good bits from the damaged sets to get one good one?!

Already been mentioned ;)

I guess it depends which coaches were damaged in the incident. Surely First could bail them out with some kind of short term HST loan? They desperately need one now!

And the last I heard, the other 222 should be repaired by Christmas. How old is that info of yours Yorkie?

Where would first get a spare HST from? Do many HT drivers still sign HST's?

What if they transferred from another company which ran HSTs?

if mml gave them a meridian, and say fgw gave mml a hst there is a compromise? all depends on what is spare.

How do you suggest they order some HELLFIRE Valenats and Mk3s then?

They could try and gazump GC and offer more money to DRS for the charter stock, and I'm being realistic this is FirstGroup, money talks my friends ! :-P

Time to cut the froth...

222102 will not be out of action for very long.. damage was confirmed as NOT SERIOUS by local MOM on scene. Under solebar area on Coach B needs checking if not already done.

HD on railchat (Hull Trains driver) reports that 222102 should be back in action by tomorrow at the earliest, maybe longer.

Julian, celebrating the collapse of a HT222 is a bit immature.. think about what the passengers must have thought, and the driver!
