I've heard that 43053 is off lease from the 13/02, and is the first HST powercar off lease without a future!

It's not the first. 43017 & 43069 are both condemned according to HST Forum.

None of them are "condemned" and none are off-lease yet.

Well they're going through the 'Delap' stages, so pretty much off-lease.
They're 40 year old trains with no future operator, so I suspect they'll be stored then scrapped!
What is Delap?

Dilapidation repairs. Basically fixing issues on them before the ROSCO does the handback exam. If they don't do them, it can be expensive.
Think of it like leasing a car - when the lease ends the owner will look at the condition and if it isn't in a "fair and reasonable" condition you get charged for putting it right.

Is there any Great Northern 313s on the "Hornsey Christmas Tree" list at the moment, ones which probably won't be returning to traffic any time soon?

I think Southern could do with some spares as they are struggling some of their 313's being out of service

I've only had that once and that was back in 2007 from Aviemore to Inverness. I don't think it was with FGW when I was there.

No, GNER had 053 as well as 43056 under their belt. It is said that they two are the most reliable GWR power cars due to their newer electronics I think.
