And still nobody has mentioned NO trains on Boxing Day. I'm amazed :lol::o:lol:

Although in Greater Glasgow Scotrail will probably continue to provide a popular boxing day service, with trains likely to be busy with shoppers hitting the sales.

Why not have a look at Real Time Trains.

I thought at first that train were either running into Waterloo or Marylebone but |I've found out some are terminating at Ealing Broadway will we get to see the rarity of GWR HST's and Adelante's stopping there and I hoped Heathrow Express to but it seems they are only shuttling between the Heathrow Terminals:(

The original story was that trains would go to Waterloo or Marylebone but as they can go almost to Paddington. In any case Waterloo has it's own Engineering Works. I think you'll find Swanseas, Britol and West of Englands will terminate at Ealing Broadway although there appear to be some terminating at Reading. The service has been thinned out somewhat in so much as Cheltenham trains will not run beyond Swindon.

So there won't be any HST's running into Marylebone like there were last year.
Also there don't seem to be any Heathrow Express or Connect trains running over the period which I thought was 24th-30th December but the GWR website says 24th-20th December :o

Any engineering works in Scotland during the Xmas/new year period. Normally the dundee to Aberdeen line gets closed on sundays about a few weeks after the new year

I've said before that this hypothetical diversion into Waterloo never appeared in the relevant Engineering Access Statement (EAS), and I suspect people just presumed the diversions would happen as soon as they heard Paddington would be closed, (albeit with no evidence to back it up.

I presume that TfL won't decide to close the Piccadilly line then, then, though nothing seems to have yet been announced!

I presume Network Rail will have another go at replacing the bridge (or bridges) over Old Lodge Lane, Coulsdon, which was disrupted by bad weather last year. That would see the Brighton Main Line severed for the duration.

They're already started! The new span is in place on the slow lines already. It worked out well doing it now as the service was already a shambles due to the industrial action. See the attached picture that I took today.
(PS I've always classed it as Purley, not Coulsdon)

An underbridge on the WCML at Hartshill, north of Nuneaton is being replaced starting on Christmas Day. Trains will be using the Trent Valley main line again on Wednesday 28 December 2016. The new bridge is currently being built in a field adjacent to the line.

According to the GWR website, trains will start and finish at Ealing Broadway. "Unfortunately, the platforms there are not long enough to accommodate the carriages which carry bikes...". Therefore bikes are banned on high speed services east of Reading and on local and regional services east of Slough.

How long are the platforms at Ealing Broadway? I appreciate it may be tight for HSTs but turbos and adelantes should be no problem whatsoever?? Bikes can be taken on and off turbos there every day normally?

Maybe they've decided this because of overcrowding. If so say so, don't bs..

Just wanted to ask here before messaging GWR...

Cheers :)

AIUI platforming will be different to normal, with some HSTs running on the reliefs. They possibly don't want bikes on the footbridge to the fast line platforms which are not normally used by the Turbo operated services.

Capacity on platforms will have been assessed differently for the case if every train is terminating and then departing from the same platform in the reverse direction, you'd possibly expect access control to be in place as well.

On HSTs bikes are carried only in the TGS, the coach at the very west end of the rakes if the rake is orientated normally, and in the adjacent power car. If the doors to these vehicles are off the end of the platform at Ealing then it's not possible to load and unload bicycles.

It is just possible that GWR know what they are doing...

Yes, as I said, I totally get that thank you.

My question was how indeed long are the platforms at said station?

Also I just wondered why cycles were also banned on the shorter trains "due to short platforms"? Presumably it is actually due to crowding for that period of time, and is simply another example of the public just being told a simplistic answer instead of the whole facts, even when it wouldn't necessarily be detrimental to the company if the public knew the whole facts. Most people would understand this one I reckon. Surely now though if someone rolls up there and sees the whole length of their train is totally in the platform they're gonna say erm, hang on a minute - you said...? Just be totally straight in the first place.

Sorry, this sort of thing happens everywhere all the time, keep the public ignorant. Sometimes with good, or fair enough, reason, but usually not.

HSTs will be using Platform 3 and 4, the relief line platforms, during the closure. Platform 3 which will be used for starting services is 182 metres and Platform 4 which will be used for terminating services is 200 metres.

8 coaches of Mk3s is 184 metres, so that makes Platform 4 just long enough for the front power car (17 metres) and all coaches with the rear power car hanging off the platform. However Platform 3 on the other hand, assuming the front power car remains on the platform, could be an issue for loading bikes if the set was in reverse formation.

I used these arrangements on Christmas Eve, and was impressed how smoothly it went. Having overslept for my intended train, I was on the 1004 from Bristol Parkway. This train was less than half full even from Reading. When we were approaching Ealing Broadway, the TM announced that coach A would not be platformed, and passengers would have to move to coach B to detrain. Arriving on time in platform 4 at 1133 there was no need to use the overbridge to get to the Underground, and despite narrowly missing a Central Line, I was into Oxford Circus by 1210, and Kings Cross by 1220 thereby comfortably making my 1258 Eurostar.
