That's what I was wondering - aren't the Glasgow-Carlisle-Newcastle services normally 156s?
They are.
I'm wondering if it was for some sort of refurbishment*? One went through York 3-4 weeks ago, trying to find out exactly what it was for.
I'm sure the work is done at Springburn, but there was one down here for some reason.

Post of the day (says a committed nationalist/SNP supporter!). Anyway, a quick look on Scot-Rail.co.uk confirms that this was indeed the move from Loughborough. It is indeed only 156s that go from Newcastle to Carlisle.
Identified as 158789. I understand some units have been going to Loughborough for internal refurbishment.

That is quite concerning really, thankfully it was an ECS and not a rammed passenger working. Had there been standing passengers in the vestibule it could have been pretty serious.

As someone who's qualified on 156, were taught that this is a possibility due to the inter-vehicle coupling being the BSI. I've seen a video on Facebook where the vehicle on the left continued onto the left with the right vehicle stationary after Train Wire 4 was broken, throwing the brakes onto the rear vehicle. But still quite concerning as we'll be getting 158's up at Newcastle soon! Looks like it was on the Up Main too which they've had a possession on some nights this week recently for ballast renewal. Coincidence?
Not sure why it's concerning, there are 158's all around the network not coming apart.
Besides, Newcastle has had plenty of 158's before as well.
