Tbh it's just a base coat with minimal colour and branding, it looks better than the NXEA plain white & blue.

Its a little saddening that they have just finished upgrading the East Suffolk Line, and now the unit that advertises it is about to be sent off to have the maps removed.

BTW just noticed that Sunday 9th December (new t/t) on the East Suffolk is bustitution.
So the first trains to cross at Beccles 'in service' will be Monday 10th, the
10.25am departures?

The 317/6s have the same seats as the 156s so if they got the new seat covers then it stands to reason these will be the ones used.

It would be great if the 170s got table maps, advertising all the branch lines such as the Sudbury & Harwich branches and the Ipswich/Norwich/Cambridge lines. The East Suffolk Line is still only 1tp2h on a Sunday anyway so no big loss tbh.

Mark 3s also have the same seat covers as the 317/5s and old 156s, but the most recent stuff to be built/refurbished that got new seat covers (379s, some 317/6s, some 321/4s) have been fitted with the black and white seat covers, so assuming 156402 got new seat covers, I would expect them to be of this pattern. Part of me is still hoping that 422 comes back with the table maps still in place

Greater Anglia has announced a £3 million upgrade to its fleet of local trains in Norfolk and Suffolk.

The train operator’s nine two-carriage Class 156 vehicles will receive a complete interior overhaul, including new carpets, dado panels, seat covers and a deep clean as well as the installation of a new passenger information system which will deliver automatic announcements. The vehicles will also be fitted with a universal access toilet.

Each unit will also receive a brand new coat of paint in the company’s red and white livery.

Does anyone know if they are doing anything about seat-back tables, as there are currently very ugly holes in the back of the seat shells where the tables used to be mounted.

I've seen pictures from a mate on Facebook. Same seat covers (as Mk3's and 317/5s). New tables, new carpet, new disabled loo and wheelchair space, appears new seat backs and handles on the top of the seat, deep clean, but I can't make my mind up if its had new lighting strips or not. Oh, and not forgetting the PIS that's been installed.

I like the trim, the new carpets and am actually quite fond of the red seat handles, I think they contrast nicely with the seat moquette. The seat covers still look a little faded, but they are still only a few years old, but my biggest annoyance by far with it are the seat backs. Why are the holes where the tables used to be still there! They better have better plastic covers on this time, as all the scummy youths that use these trains used to put chewing gum in there and it was really grim, and I fear for the cleanliness of 156402. Aside from that, looks like a good job.

I went on several 156s on Saturday and did think they looked very scruffy with the missing tables. Why were they removed? I always put my ticket and railcard on the seat back tables but obviously couldn't in this case! I like the seat covers on these trains however, I like interiors with a bit of history! They did sound awful though with very rattly windows and very noisy engine! Perhaps I'm just used to my local DMUs with non opening windows and are comparatively quiet! I hope they keep the old liveries for a bit longer.. I much prefer the Central and even the "One" to the new Greater Anglia. I think it has far too much white and I'm not a big fan of red doors either.

The seat-back tables were originally removed due to "supply problems" with new tables, but were really removed because scummy youths kept breaking them. The are still fitted to 170s however. Greater Anglia livery is a bit boring, but it is only a base coat and is better then NX livery, but I would agre that CT and ONE are better colour schemes, although ONE was kinda ruined by removing the stripes.

looks like a half finished job really new seat cushions and covers really should have been provided and preferably ones that do not look like stagecoach bus seats. otherwise looks good.
