Hi Fozz, my advice is buy an advance ticket from Grand Central direct from Sunderland to Kings Cross. Then, as mentioned, use your contactless bank card (one card each!) to travel onwards once in London.
From KGX you have a few options -
Travel to Northolt PARK (National Rail) from Marylebone...
This example relates to customer tickets though, tickets which could also be valid on LU and which should have been issued in a form recognised by the ticket gates.
TfL provide us with bulletins and rule books with details of various tickets, passes etc with validity on the Underground. They don't however cover travel authorities that are solely valid on TOC's, after all it's nothing really to do with them anyway.
Thanks for this. Like I thought, much more sense being spoken and much quicker than trying to go through the proper means! I did not realise that was the case but it sounds like a very generous benefit.
For what it's worth, when it comes to National Rail (customers or staff) if someone believes...
Hi all, I can't seem to get any sense on this through the official channels! I work on the Underground, including at the stations on the Metropolitan Line which are shared with Chiltern Railways to Aylesbury.
On a couple of occasions, I've had a member of CrossCountry staff show me their photo...
Had a terrible time with CrossCountry recently on 31st May and 2nd June. Half an hour late arriving in Oxford from Newcastle, Train Manager blamed East Coast the entire way about twice an hour. Return journey from Oxford to Newcastle, was due to get the 12.07 direct... ending up getting on the...
I like the Northern Stars idea, but it has a mandatory field for his name which I don't know. Maybe a nice email to the head office is the way to go.
No it was a fairly chubby short guy, though the guy that checked my ticket on the way there sounds like who you are describing. He is what I...
Conductor? Guard? Customer Service Assistant? Train Manager? The guy that makes the announcements and checks the tickets anyway.
Was on a short journey from the MetroCentre to Newcastle on a Northern pacer and what a great guy this was. Came to check my tickets and asked how I was and if I'd...
I'm surprised to read that stations like Leeds (I was there not so long ago and thought it was a real woman) and Birmingham have recorded announcements, yet Newcastle which although large has much lower passenger numbers, has live announcements. What is the thinking behind which stations do and...
Thanks the replies everyone. I did wonder why both times I was told I would need a ticket reference only to not be asked for it, I guess this explains why!
I booked a return ticket last week for May, and have just booked a return to somewhere else for next week, both using the same payment card. I have opted to pick both of them up at the Fast Ticket machines at Newcastle. Will having two lots of tickets to pick up with the same card cause any...
Thanks for the replies, everyone. I'm kinda getting the impression I should just pass on the trolley! The prices don't do anything to encourage me otherwise either.
I didn't actually know there was a Costa at Newcastle, not much use to me though since I don't like Coffee!
