Conductor? Guard? Customer Service Assistant? Train Manager? The guy that makes the announcements and checks the tickets anyway.

Was on a short journey from the MetroCentre to Newcastle on a Northern pacer and what a great guy this was. Came to check my tickets and asked how I was and if I'd bought anything good from the Metrocentre. A big step up from the usual "tickets...thanks " affair from Northern staff. Then when everyone was getting off, he stood at the door saying thanks and bye to all the passengers.

These simple things make a world of difference. :)

Agreed with Yew above. There is one guard that I see quite often and talk to, but keep forgetting to ask his name to send a letter in to head office.

Newcastle - MetroCentre guards seem to be some of the nicest, mainly as half the time there is no-one on the train and there is nothing much else for them to do!

A EMT conductor on a Liverpool-Norwich service was a bit like recently. I boarded at the rear door where he released the doors from and he said 'Good morning' to everyone boarding at that door. When he came though to check tickets he was telling people expected arrival times at where they were alighting.

Isn't it funny how something like that can make all the difference? I remember an XC guard coming down the train one afternoon when I was on the way home (and, IIRC, in a bit of a bad mood after a horrid day in the office)

Hello! *smile* *check ticket* Thanks!
Hi! *smile* *check ticket* Thank you!

...all the way down the carriage.

I like the Northern Stars idea, but it has a mandatory field for his name which I don't know. Maybe a nice email to the head office is the way to go.

wasn't a tall dark haired bloke was it? on your metro centre run?

No it was a fairly chubby short guy, though the guy that checked my ticket on the way there sounds like who you are describing. He is what I based my example of the typical Northern staff on! :D

There's a a female guard who works for TPE and she is extremely friendly - beaming smiles and little chats with everyone. I really don't know how she stays so happy!
