This would be a long term, somewhat symbolic, project, but it really would open up rural Ceredigion. Benefits for quick travel to Cardiff and beyond....
This would have to be linked with linespeed / modernisation of the Cambrian, and reopening on Bangor - Afon Wen....

Looks like an interesting campaign, basically to reinstate Carms - Aber and Pwllheli - Bangor.
N.B. Stephen Crabb is the Welsh Secretary.
Maybe it would be better to move the servicing of Gerald to Holyhead (overnight).?
This might free it up for a daytime run too?
Seems to have a high failure rate out of Canton, and leave them with the 14x/150 trains.
Quote from the Daily Post: "But in an apparent U-turn Transport Minister Edwina Hart has announced the chefs are to be retained and the first class carriage rebranded as business class.
Great news for Welsh railways.
Worth pointing out that Arriva have two sets, but could presumably hire more sets to cover a new service from North Wales - Manchester. I doubt there would be First Class on such a service, more likely to be 4 x standards.
Surely it would make more sense to use LHCS on Cardiff - Holyheads - this would fit in better with staff familiarity etc...
This would free up 158s or 175s for other crowded services?
I could see LHCS on services to Manchester, but surely this is going to be a major pain to organise if it...
Pure speculation. There is no way that WG will divert Gerald to Chester - Manchester commuter services!!
What those poor souls will get is 4 / 5 Mk 2s with a 67 at each end, the lack of foresight in all this is unbelievable (disposing of the ex Gerald Mk 2s).
This would be good news.
I suggest that Welsh Government / DfT should explore the possibility of a morning Aber - Shrewsbury - Euston Voyager and evening return as part of the West Coast franchise.
Is there a source for the correct figures, or is it based on anecdotes?
In any case, what's required is a decent mixed service to a variety of destinations.
This does leave one wondering where the extra stock for Cambrian hourly will come from.
I suppose ATW will demand cash to hire in some Mk2's & 67s for Chester- Manchester. The ex-Gerald Mk2s were stabled at Crewe a couple of weeks ago....
