    Wrexham redouble

It might be that the points were due for routine replacement unconnected to the redoubling?

    Wrexham redouble

I just worry that in a austerity climate, the section between Wrexham and Shrewsbury doesn't see signalling and line speed improvements.

    Wrexham redouble

Political appeasement, flip flopping, weakness - you could describe it as you want. It'll be a shame for the whole Chester - Newport section if this infrastructure "gesture" means that less money is spent on improvements that would have increased capacity and improved journey times...

    Wrexham redouble

Well the whole basis to proceed with this scheme is political appeasement - as far as I understood the Minister had come to the conclusion that the cost benefit wasn't there, and cancelled it. The redouble that isn't actually a redouble was only revived after local uproar, even though it will be...

    Wrexham redouble

There was a lot of what looked very much like new points at Saltney at the start of the week. Is the redoubling happening or not? Starting to seriously worry about the competency of the Welsh Government - the row about the Valleys electrification and rowing amongst themselves about the...

Who should pay for the Valleys Electrification?

I think that would be a minor administrative anomaly! I could see some people "switching" to gain the lowest rates!

    Cambrian hourly service consultation

More LHCS on Holyhead - CArdiff franchised workings would free up stock.

    Wrexham redouble

The project was dumped by the Minister, then revived because of local "uproar". I can't imagine the cost benefit is at all favourable, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it questioned again.

    Wrexham redouble

Why not a circular service....Chester - Wrexham - Shrewsbury (reverse) - Chester (and an opposite train). This would bring big connectivity benefits all round. ..

    Wrexham redouble

I think there's a good case for at least a 1/2 hourly service from Wrexham - Chester (and vice versa). A dedicated 140 class or 153 might do the trick? I thought the luxury bus with leather seats was also operated by Arriva?

    Wrexham redouble

The Gerald / Premier service has now effectively replaced a franchised working (1716) and this is a very positive move and undone a short sighted political move to move the departure to after 6pm...... If savings had to be made, then the 1st class would be the sacrificial lamb I would suggest...

    Wrexham redouble

That statement is plainly incorrect. I think you could be taken more seriously if you'd bother to check chronological events before posting your "facts". The decision to replace the service pattern operated by "First North Western" that focused on North Wales - Crewe, Birmingham and Manchester...

    Wrexham redouble

The loss of Holyhead - Birmingham's, which were loco hauled MK1s, was a result of the WCML modernisation, and the introduction of Virgin High Frequency Timetable. So the paths basically went. Anyone wanting to get to Biirmingham quickly still goes via Crewe, and change there.

    Wrexham redouble

I would suggest that WG became aware that the redoubling will only be a half-baked outcome and this is why the funding for the project was pulled? It was only reinstated after pressure locally, but the outcome will still be half-baked.

    Wrexham redouble

Absolutely correct point. The driver isn't any Super Prison or untapped market to NW England.

    Cambrian hourly service consultation

Politics? Welsh money spent in Wales?

    Cambrian hourly service consultation

The most practical way for ATW to free up some 158s is to use more LHCS ("push-pull") on North - South services.

Swansea to West Wales local services

Who knows! The joys of politics!

Pont Briwet to be closed to trains until 2015 [Update - now reopened as of Sept 2014]

The damage on the Cambrian Coast between Tywyn and Barmouth is very bad indeed. I suppose it takes the heat off Pont Briwet... Complete deaballasting in places with track "hanging" and certainly weeks worth of repairs. --- old post above --- --- new post below --- In the context of...

Pont Briwet to be closed to trains until 2015 [Update - now reopened as of Sept 2014]

Thanks for tidying that up.... I was just having a quick look at the Cambrian usage statistics, which - combined - aren't bad at all....
