DfT prepares to wage war on train drivers

After reading HH's comments on breaks I asked half a dozen friends who work in different offices in Cardiff about theirs, all of whom said they were paid for their lunch breaks. Not a scientific study or a large sample size but instructive nonetheless.

DfT prepares to wage war on train drivers

In 30 years on the railway I've never heard the term "fire break".I'm struggling to see what Wilkinson is complaining about when it comes to breaks.I can only assume he expects train crew to cut their breaks short in the event of disruption.Very sensible !!! Does he really want someone starting...

DfT prepares to wage war on train drivers

Inaccuracy with figures is nothing new for Barwell. He was carpeted for exceeding the legal spending limit for an election campaign in 2010

DfT prepares to wage war on train drivers

Did you read Wilkinson's comments? The only one looking to provoke industrial strife is him.

DfT prepares to wage war on train drivers

It might interest members to know that the MP who organised the meeting in question repeats the accusations in his blog on his website.Doesn't even state on there that the nonsense was actually from Wilkinson's speech.

DfT prepares to wage war on train drivers

Spot on.Since I started we are running double the number of trains with less rolling stock and fewer traincrew. Results like that aren't achieved without a huge increase in productivity.

DfT prepares to wage war on train drivers

So how do you explain his list of the conditions of train drivers, every one of which was wrong? Has to be ignorance of the subject he was speaking on or deliberate deception.

DfT prepares to wage war on train drivers

No denial from Wilkinson either. He's either deficient in his knowledge of the industry or an out and out liar. The stupidity of airing such nonsense in a public meeting also shows a lack of judgement given his status as a civil servant. He's supposed to be politically impartial.

Oui,good point lol.The Concorde of the railways.

DfT prepares to wage war on train drivers

Wilkinson is either shockingly ill informed or misleading people on purpose. My money is on the latter.Any drivers earning £60,000 will, ironically, have done so by working rest days,Sundays and other overtime. As for the comments about the length of the working week and breaks, they are simply...

How do staff on the railways communicate?

Some fine answers. I would add that,in mess rooms, train crew normally communicate by insult!!!

Person hit by train at West Drayton

Just been talking to the driver who found him. He's an old hand,a bit shaken up but he's ok thankfully.

    RMT elects Mick Cash

Having voted for Mick Cash I'm delighted he won. He has big shoes to fill as Bob was hugely popular among the membership. Reassured to hear there will no deviation from the path the union was following under Bob.

    New Platform At Barry

Sorry Dan, I should have explained it better. When there were two platforms the junction to go to the Island was after the down platform. Now the points to take you on to the Island branch are on the approach to the station so you can only go towards Rhoose from the old down platform.

    New Platform At Barry

Well the new platform is up and running. I find it very strange that trains can no longer access the Barry Island branch from the old down platform though. Asking for trouble if there's a points failure.
