At Maidstone East, you should be able to see freights heading to and from the Channel Tunnel, it's just a question of timing. If you look at realtime trains you can see when freights are due, in this case you're looking at trains to and from Dollands Moor...
6A looking south at platform 7. Not sure if platform 7 was in use back then. There's also a car park in between the station and the building behind it.
I have a feeling that the 73 was meant to tow it from Stewarts Lane to somewhere but developed a fault and the decision was made to let the Deltic run to avoid delays and congestion. I'm sure I read this in a copy of RAIL some time ago with a history of the Deltic Preservation Society, and I...
As much as I miss direct northbound trains to anywhere north of Kettering, I do like the service between Luton and London. It seems that not as many people are aware of the service and it's now possible to get advances from Luton to London for next to nothing. Let the 360s have a refurb and a...
Just watching and hearing a heavy freight roll past. It makes me realise how much it gets off the roads, and how suitable rail is for heavy loads.
Or the fact I spent 5 days up in Scotland in June, with some quite tight connections to ensure I covered all of the lines and junctions I needed to...
Does anyone know roughly what timetable they will use? I'm planning on going, but would like to know when they start and finish each day to book suitable transport and accommodation.
I've tried using railmiles but can't seem to get a mileage from Queen Street HL to anywhere. Does anyone know what the mileage for the above route is please?
When the trains run via the NLL, does the loco run round at Wembley? Or is it top and tailed? I'll be on the Northbound Highlander in June and will be diverted this way.
Without knowing your full itinerary it's difficult to say. Inverness to Aberdeen is not included though, and the route will soon be blocked off for engineering works until September. I'm looking at doing a trip around Scotland in June, but wrote this ticket off as I feel the other rovers will...
We've moved on from yellow warning panels. Put in a suitable LED light in the headlamp and it could be done. Just the issue of finding some engines to put inside it, re-wire and re-build the whole damn thing. Even after a big lottery win and a big night out, I'd still think it a bad investment...
I definitely know of Mossend, for trains to Inverness and Glasgow Queen Street and Fort William maybe? I think there were a couple of Holyhead trains that changed over traction in the yard at Crewe and some Edinburgh trains on the South curve at Carstairs.
We'll take in Pwllheli, I'm not travelling all that way to miss out on the little bit! If we do finish early at Llanberis, we might head over to Llandudno.
