    Abject Stupidity

Most High Street banks now open on 'Bank' holidays. Admittedly the smaller branches won't and there is sometimes a reduced service and or shortened hours. But I've been working bank/public holidays for at least the last three years.

What happens if a train driver gets a nosebleed or needs the toilet?

I'm having a bit of a chuckle reading through this and listening to "Go With The Flow" by Queens of the Stone Age! I always find these useful when camping... http://www.traveljohn.com/1-1-1.php#

    Luton disused lines question(s)

I'm sure someone will give a more complete answer but here goes. I believe the signal in question was for the connection on to the mainline, you used to be able to see it on passing trains with the signal lit for years. That section of track was the first bit removed so that the car park...

    Busy First/Last Trains

The last one from St. Pancras towards Bedford on a Saturday is usually good for a fight and some vomit. And if you're really lucky, some idiot will set off a fire extinguisher too.

    Woodhead

Why not? Most folk would still use Euston for a direct trip to Manchester. But Sheffield to London via the ECML would be as quick as the Midland Mainline with a reversal at Doncaster. And then you have the flexibility of routes from the East towards Manchester.

    Woodhead

They could have ignored the Midland Main Line, used the line through Victoria, round the corner to Rotherham and on to Doncaster for the very soon to be electrified East Coast.

Red Spotted Hanky charging me twice

Could also be your fault if you've double clicked the submit payment button or hit refresh during the payment process! I work in a bank and see this often. In the unlikely event that it does show on your statement twice, it's a simple phone call to get a refund.

    Cricklewood

I think 45149 was dumped there after a seized traction motor. Presumably too expensive to repair and too much of a hassle trying to do anything with it. I spent most of my childhood travelling past it, and I think it was responsible for my appreciation of BR Blue diesels. It was bought for...

How fast do you drive on the motorway?

Now that I drive a faster car, I generally drive slower to conserve petrol. If I stick to 60-65, I can average 45-50mpg on a good motorway/A road run. It drops to 30-35mpg if I'm doing 80-85mph. i used to drive the M1 during 2am-6am, if lorries are restricted to 60, then most of them must be...

    Card Fraud

I work in a bank and see this a lot. Fortunately, since Chip&Pin was introduced, it has decreased a lot but I have heard of skimming devices on ticket issuing machines. As soon as the banks/card issuers install a new security device, the fraudsters turn to another scheme. Now we have to put up...
