    Class 175s to GWR

Not sure I agree. Every year on public roads we take our vehicles for an MOT test after three years old. The MOT inspectors have checklists of stuff and foibles wouldn't be included. Perhaps there need to be GBR cab exams every year I am not techie but AIUI class 170s and the "spin off" 168s...

    Varamis Rail Class 321s & 325s”

No idea of the Varamis business structure, and whether they still have any employees on the books. Or if they still have a working operators licence, if the yare using the H&H. Whatever happens though there needs to be some evidence of compliance so I imagine Varamis will need to run some trains...

    Grand Central Class 180 formations

I believe the 221s were only ever a temporary fix in order to get the 180s fixed, even though they are more reliable than the 180s. I think they were intended to go back to Alstom in August 2025. Pretty sure that only the West Riding crews sign the 221s and they only work the Bradford...

    DCR locos

Very Midland and a welcome variation. I am sure Messrs Kirtley, Johnson and Fowler would approve.

    Class 175s to GWR

Amazingly, that was done when the 379s were stored at Worksop. They were taken over to Doncaster one or two at a time to juice up under the OLE, then returned to soggy old Worksop. Totally agree about the 175s, and it was perfectly obvious that DfT would "rehire" them at some point, and due to...

    Grand Central Class 180 formations

To be honest Roger, I looked at few weeks ago and the serviceable 180s seem to have been restored to original formations. Presumablythat has been possible because of the continued use of 221142/3 covering two Bradford diagrams.

    Class 175s to GWR

I don't know, but the 769/9s are owned by Porterbrook, the bulk of which are stored in Porterbrook's own facilities in Long Marston. Not sure what money changed hands when DfT contracted GWR to lease the 769/9s, but when DfT instructed GWR to abandon the plans for 769s on the North Downs lines...

What is Control (not a philosophical discussion!)

If you are referring to the XC route controllers it is actually Five Ways to Penzance / Cardiff including Galton Jn via Hartlebury for the SW Controller and Proof House Jn to Bournemouth on the South Coast desk. For completeness the senior XC route controller (known as MMA) encompasses...

Great British Railways - First Train in New Livery

I think the oranges and diamonds are pretty embedded into the bus infrastructure in the West Midlands so I doubt it was Abellio.

Memories of diesels in the Highlands

This reminds me of pretty much the only camping holiday I have ever done. My mate suggested we pitch his tent on the shores of Lomond and use Balloch pier as our railhead. So we journeyed up to Glasgow then out to Dumbarton to the local class 303 up the branch to Balloch pier. We managed to...

    EPR (Europhoenix Rail) - Class 60s - (Ex-ESH / DBI Rail / Land Recovery)

Did the change of livery coincide with change of ownership ? I got the impression 60063 was repainted into a form of triple grey for ESH. Now the branding is EP Rail, are the locosstill owned bythe same people ?

Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

Thanks very much for the link. I'd argue your last sentence to be honest. The first GWR class 800 entered service in October 2017 practically nine years ago, and whilst they do seem to perform their daily role, how many of the fleet have been to Eastleigh works to have their welds repaired ...

Memories of diesels in the Highlands

As D6130 says "born too late" as indeed was I !!! Born 1962 in Coventry but moved to rural North Wales in 1971. Went to school in Tywyn 1973-1978 so I remember seeing a Sulzer 2 shunting the goods yard at Tywyn on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, so the odds are I saw some 24s joined BR in 1978 and...

Memories of diesels in the Highlands

I guess so. My late 1970s and 1980s memories are very dear to me. won't bore you with it all but a steam heated class 40 from Glagow Queen St to Inverness, then a 26 to Kyle for the most amazing journey to Mallaig. We rolled into Kyle at 2045 on Thursday evening and I knew the ferry was the...

Memories of diesels in the Highlands

mods note - split from this thread That is really useful info. Thanks for sharing. I am guessing that part of the decision making process is - how importqnt iw it to you ? My first two trips over the West Highland and the Mallaig Extension were with class 27s - fortunately mostly in...

All cross country services suspended 23/08/26

Correct "Ainsworth74" Obviously cannot say anything due to company code of conduct, but I was on duty last weekend and can confirm the Duty Manager on duty on Saturday night and Sunday night is one of the most experienced and proactive railwaymen I know. He had to strike the balance between...

    XC Voyager Refurbishment

Not really sure of the nature of set 27's injuries but know it is a big job, and because 60701 out of 220001 is also a big job they decided to make one good set out of the two for the short term.

    XC Voyager Refurbishment

Just a note that 220027 is long term stopped with some problems to one driving car which is rumoured to require a replacement cab. Central Rivers have swapped 60727 into 220001 so that 220027 has 60701 as another defective car to repair.
