ALL operators gain ORCATS share of any tickets which are valid on their services, just in the same way LNER will get ORCATS share from other TOCs when they begin serving Middlesbrough, for example.
The "recent development" (which I may know quite a lot about!l) is also expanding, new houses were built around 2 years ago and another phase going up at the moment. In my experience, around 50% of customers come from each side of the railway. There's also plenty of space to expand housing...
It's within 5 minutes walk of thousands of households, both sides of the line, and was very popular with commuters pre-COVID. The main issue was lack of train capacity, meaning people often got left behind with trains leaving packed in like sardines at peak times - this put more people off...
The attitude comes from (near) the top at certain TOCs, and even other TOCs have had problems convincing them that this policy was requested by DfT, agreed by all owning groups and TOCs and is not for any individual (no matter how senior) to overrule. I have all three of the qualities listed...
Two separate things here:
If you buy your monthly or longer season ticket from SWR you will be contacted automatically if you are eligible, but that does not mean you are automatically entitled to compensation.
Your entitlement compensation will be determined by your origin, destination...
