Union Jack-style Great British Railways branding at major Glasgow station angers Scottish government officials

I’m not understanding the reference to nationalists. The saltire is the flag of Scotland, it belongs to everyone here regardless of political opinion (or ethnic, racial, religious or other backgrounds). People identify with it regardless of whether they support independence or the union. In...

Union Jack-style Great British Railways branding at major Glasgow station angers Scottish government officials

Only it actually shows GBR in a positive light that they acknowledged there was an error on their part. I get why the error could happen, but operationally Glasgow Central high level and low level are actually distinct stations.

Union Jack-style Great British Railways branding at major Glasgow station angers Scottish government officials

Only it doesn’t. None of ScotRail, transport for Wales, Transport for London nor Merseyrail will be part of GBR.

Union Jack-style Great British Railways branding at major Glasgow station angers Scottish government officials

ScotRail isn’t and won’t be part of GBR, so the boss of TS is right to raise it, and NR were right to apologise, although it does seem like it was a genuine mistake. 1788357294 Nothing like the same scenario.

All cross country services suspended 23/08/26

Operating a railway control from Starbucks. I’ve seen some daft stuff on here but this is a belter.

Edinburgh Trams Part Closure (Summer 2026)

This was my first thought. They seem to want the trams now.

ECML animals incident near Grantham 20-21/8

Doesn’t matter how serious a panic attack or similar episode someone has, forcing the doors of a train against the instructions of a traincrew is an incredibly selfish act which puts others at risk. It should be a criminal offence.

What lessons do Ember Coaches have for battery operation on the railways?

Ember also get a sizeable subsidy from the Scottish government to purchase electric vehicles. Their servicing of rural and remote parts of Scotland will not continue in the long term. The railway will be around after the ember flash in the pan has gone.

ScotRail - New app / website booking engine from 30 July 2026

Only ScotRail could introduce a £10 minimum fare to encourage the buying of tickets in advance, whilst at the same time create huge obstacles to people buying tickets in advance.

Heat related disruption 8 July 2026 onwards

I’d guess speed restrictions in the lines they run over between Sheffield and Norwich, so with the anticipated delay they’re turning at Sheffield to make the service in that section more robust? They’ll have calculated that between Sheffield, Manchester and Liverpool there are far more options...

Borders Railway - 10 years on

Why do you say this? It’s hardly likely to be a national issue.

Borders Railway - 10 years on

I get that there might be a lot of economic reasons not to reopen to Carlisle, but the post I quoted seemed to hint that it would be for ideological reasons.

Borders Railway - 10 years on

Not sure I understand the suggestion that the Scottish government wouldn’t be interested in a connection to England. They’re hardly isolationists, and if a feasibility study showed benefit to the areas served then I’m sure they’d make investment available.

    Scottish Electrification - Post 2029

Not suggesting they are falling down (yet!), but better care and maintenance over the years would likely reduce maintenance bills now. Leaving buildings to rot in an empty state results in higher cost later on.

    Scottish Electrification - Post 2029

Why should they do that? It doesn’t happen under any other circumstance? Possibly the railway, in its various guises, should’ve taken better care of the buildings over the years. There’s probably also opportunities to obtain funding from various bodies to assist in upkeep, maintenance etc.

    Scottish Electrification - Post 2029

I’d be surprised if there were. Station structure is probably listed and protected.

    Scottish Electrification - Post 2029

Any track rationalisation for the station? The carriage sidings would probably go, if stabling is moving elsewhere (and not a moment too soon).

Fave TOC that no longer exists

First themselves weren’t anything special, but were miles ahead of Abellio who surely have to take the prize for worst ever management of a TOC with their record at ScotRail. Not helped as usual by good old Transport Scotland of course, whose involvement in the railway should be removed.

Man in court for setting fire to fellow worker

I think a good barometer of whether the reporting is realistic is the response of those of us who work in the industry, and as one of those people, I can see how this could have happened under the guise of an acceptable prank. 1779896021 It’s implicitly rather than explicitly accepted.
