I agree to an extent, but when budgets are tightly controlled and are on an annual (or periodic) basis, then these behaviours are always likely. However the root cause is the culture of believing that the spending of any tax payer money has to be tightly controlled and viewed with absolute...
Interestingly, Scotland has already been operating in this manner (or close to it) for many years, and will likely continue to do so, yet ScotRail will not be part of GBR.
Who is deciding the common unit length? Given the difference in the routes and their current operations, it sees to create other problems. I’m not sure the same type of unit works on both Fife/Borders routes and the Argyle line.
The solution I posted solves all issues in terms of differing...
Hopefully, the issue of stabling capacity and/or platform lengths will be overcome. But I think that what’s more likely is that subclasses will be created.
Fife and the borders will likely get three car 23m units which will double up in the peak, and the Glasgow suburban network will get 5 car...
Possibly, but they’d also be looking at costs. The distances covered between Coatbridge and Aberdeen/Inverness probably makes the rail operation viable for them, whereas the short distance to Bathgate likely doesn’t.
They obviously do make big play of their less CO2 aspect of their distribution...
It operated in the same manner as the through services to/from Glasgow Central (and previously Stranraer). North of Carlisle they were ScotRail responsibility, South/West of Carlisle they were Northern operated. A northern unit was used for this one (as opposed the other through services where...
The cal mac ferry at least connects with the train into Glasgow Central. Western ferries leaves you well outside either town centre and without any decent transport connection aside a bus stop.
The problem for the cal mac ferry is that it’s been undermined over the years, the removal of through...
Platform 1 & 2 are still some distance from the fire so I doubt it’s a structural issue. Probably to do with controlling passenger numbers and flow/movement around the station.
Part of the issue is that running a new service from scratch using staff whose role is primarily day-to-day operations is an extremely difficult and labour intensive exercise, one which if over-complicated runs the risk of overwhelming the staff and becoming a shambles.
You’re not going to get...
The emergency timetable would have been compiled at very short notice by staff already dealing with the ‘on the day’ fall out from the incident.
Redesigning the timetable to suit passengers on the Largs branch would have been completely unrealistic.

Central will almost certainly be...
I think for a large proportion of the population the train between Inverness and the Central Belt will always be the more attractive option compared to Ember, even if it was free. Just as for some people using their car would be more preferable even if it was the more expensive option compared...
A car journey between Inverness and the central belt is also unlikely to take 2 hours unless someone has little to no regard for their personal safety (and others’).
Unless the bus is paying absolutely no regard to speed limits, the journey time from Inverness to the Central Belt by road will never be two hours give or take.
Inverness will just be like other locations in that there is a range of transport options for people to choose from. Express buses...
The answer is probably not, and does it have to be? ScotRail won’t come under the GBR branding either. Neither will London Overground or Merseyrail.
Again why would they have to be?

Exactly. GBR will take over the functions of Network Rail in Scotland (and Wales I assume), but it...
Yes exactly, because it’s only drivers who matter eh?
Everyone else gets shouted down and bullied out the way. School playground antics. Loudest and most threatening voice wins.
