Difficult though isn't it. I'm not truly going to know whether or not it's gonna work until I try it but of course by then it's too late to get my old job back if it's aweful.
Sorry I know I have hijacked the thread somewhat as this is supposed to be about train driving but are you a driver or a guard? I did create a thread a few weeks ago with a number of questions around the commercial guard role but it got no replies.
I'm pretty devestated by the posts in this thread to be honest. I'm not going to say what I currently do but I detest my current job and feel like after 16 years I've reached the end of the rope with it. Trouble is there are not many jobs out there that pay even close to what I'm on now and I...
God I think this post alone has put the nail in the coffin for me. Seems like no life at all, not to mention the fact that I would permanently be in a state of fatigue. I'm failing to see the positives that you have indicated in your last sentence.
If there are 23 hours of possible work time then surely the hours should simply be days (08.00 - 16.00), lates (15.00 - 23.00) and nights (23.00 - 08.00) with each set of guards just taking over from the previous ones?
The start and finish times, the rest time in between and the actual shift pattern. Unfortunately I don't have a body clock that can quickly adapt. A start time of 04.00 would mean having to get up at 03.00 latest which quite frankly sounds dreadful as I know I wouldn't be able to get to sleep...
I am waiting for an interview for a commercial guard position at Farnham. One of my main concerns is the shifts. Can I assume that the shifts will be the same as the drivers? It's a bit concerning reading some of these posts regarding the shifts.
The post I've applied for is Farnham and the salary for Farnham is showing as £31,544. It seems strange that the Basingstoke post would be 7k more than the Farnham one. Could this be a typo or is it something to do with the shifts? Maybe the Basingstoke depot has more unsociable hours so the...
Can anybody clarify what the salary is for a commercial guard after training and how long it takes to reach the top salary?
I'm currently applying and I've passed the assessment centre and just waiting for an interview.
When I first applied a couple of months ago, the advert I saw said that...
Hi there. I am currently going through the recruitment process for commercial guard positions at SWR. I've passed the assessment centre and am awaiting an interview date. I have been in my current job for 16 years and am sick to death of it and looking for a change in career. It will...
