The old red subway cars actually used tramcar engines which would have helped as well. Re people being precious, I'm pretty certain Londoners would object if I called their excellent Tube network the Metro.

Except that Council offices in Newtown St Boswells are next to empty on a daily basis as most staff work from home or from other council offices now. And, yes, it is baffling that SBC recently renovated the offices at Newtown.

I think it's more that the bridge opens and closes at very irregular times so a proper timetable is well nigh impossible.

Rather than an inner/outer service, simply extend the lenghts of the trains. I realise units aren't simply lying about but the longer the train the less likely it is to be standing room only. It doesn't help that people don't move down to the middle of the carriages but a 6 coach 170 would...
