Companies That You Expect to Disappear Soon

Sort of sad to see National Car Parks are in administration. While their sites are often overpriced and badly maintained, it’s another cornerstone of the High Street that’s in trouble.

The Conservative Party under Kemi Badenoch

From 2010 to 2015 the Conservatives were in coalition with the Liberal Democrats, so it cannot all be blamed on the Conservatives. And also, on coming to power, the coalition was forced to implement austerity because of the economic crash under the previous Labour government of Gordon Brown.

First West of England (Bristol, Bath & The West)

One of the problems identified re the Worle Transport (ie bus) Interchange is the poor links to the railway station. Trivia: UK bus stations not fit for purpose

As well as being away from the town centre, it’s also further from the sea front (the main if not sole attraction of Weston). The buses used to terminate at Marine Parade on the sea front (and before that the bus station proper), but now stop well short of it.

Drivers stuck in a queue on a level crossing

Some people might assume erroneously that there is a signalman to stop trains if the crossing is blocked. Perhaps they should have red boxes (ie like red routes in London) to distinguish them from the more common and less important ones at road junctions.

    Cosiest UK station (trivia)

The loops beyond Yatton station are used in times of service disruption to allow faster trains to overtake slower trains. But probably not 4+ times every day.

    Inside a Small Town Station

There is a Martins Bank archive website here: https://www.martinsbank.co.uk/. It has a lot of detail about their branch network, including Great Harwood, which survived as a Barclays branch until 2015.

Termini that are really just like wayside halts

Coryton really was designated as a halt by the GWR despite being a terminus. The same was true, for example, of Old Ynysybwl Halt, which was also the end of the line.

Stations not known by their "official" names?

This is true. However, the official station entrance BR logo sign showed ‘Worle Parkway’ until they covered the word ‘Parkway’. Google street view shows earlier versions saying Parkway. So if the railways themselves can’t get it right, what hope is there for the public.
