    Independent businesses on stations?

Yatton has the Strawberry Line cafe, a not-for-profit community-run cafe. Very nice and some books etc to read while eating too!

Trivia: What are the quirkiest railway stations in Britain?

Pilning only has 2 trains a week, both on Saturdays and in the same direction!

Trivia: What are the quirkiest railway stations in Britain?

Coombe Junction Halt is quirky - only two trains each way a day and they have to use a special section of track to get there. Plus the mothballed line beyond to Moorwater.

Do train crews from different TOCs mix with one another in the mess room, or keep themselves to themselves?

Are there also messroom divisions between different unions, or between union members and non-union people?

Trivia: Downsized stations that are shells of their former selves?

Highbridge in Somerset used to be a large junction between the GWR and Somerset and Dorset lines, with I think five platforms, and is now just a simple two platform affair. Templecombe also in Somerset was a junction too, was closed and reopened as a one platform station.

The branch from Gunnislake goes under the Cornish main line twice before joining it at St Budeaux.

    Canute Rd Level Crossing Southampton

I think I read somewhere that both the bus driver and the train driver were disciplined/sacked for this incident. The train driver because he continued to move the train towards the bus despite the blockage. I could be wrong though.

Northern say don't use dating apps on the train

What worries me more is that that press release says that ‘Content considered ‘NSFW’ can range in scale from inappropriate jokes and bad language’. Who determines what is inappropriate? At one day’s time common sense could be applied, but now almost any joke could be considered offensive by some.

    TfW Request Stop Trial

What’s not to like is the cost, both for installation and ongoing maintenance. Surely there are more important things to spend taxpayers money on?

    Cornwall Metro funding approved

And the ramp-type footbridges look awful, being so large and bulky. Plus, because they are so long, most normal passengers don’t use them and so the ramps feel quite isolated and unsafe from a crime perspective. They should just stick some lights on the barrow crossings, much cheaper!

The UK and white elephant stations

Ivybridge in Devon seems to be a bit of a white elephant. Intended partly as a park and ride station from Plymouth, it has suffered from a fluctuating train service and convoluted access from the A38. It’s also quite a way from the town centre.

Old level crossings/ manually operated gates

There’s also Bishton level crossing near Newport on the South Wales Main Line, and Blue Anchor on the West Somerset Railway.

    Polesworth

See also Pilning, which also lost its footbridge for OLE and now only has two services a week, in the same direction, and a ticket easement to compensate.

Use of term "alternate" instead of "alternative"

As we’re on the subject of Americanisms, one of my pet hates is ‘gotten’. Plus ‘train station’ where British English is a railway station.
