Bournemouth itself only has a population of 196,455 (built-up area, 2021). The 401,898 figure relates to the Council area of Bournemouth Christchurch and Poole (BCP), but this has other services to it (eg First’s X54 to Poole).

Not a Post Office, but Starcross station used to have a part-time sub-branch of the National Westminster Bank as part of the station building. It closed in the 1990s I think, to become a fish and chip shop.
The closest seaside resort to Birmingham in Weston-super-Mare, which has precisely one direct XC train each way per day. Weston is a favourite of Brummies and has its own Bournville estate (very different from the Cadbury one though).
Thanks, interesting responses re 9 and 126. If the 9 is rerouted to replace the 5, it could almost replace the 6 too, which takes a very sinuous, circuitous route between Weston and Worle. But then something else would need to serve Mead Vale.
