In the 70's my driver and I had to go from Leicester to Wigston South Jct, wait for the Northfleet-Handsworth, work the train to Bescot, we spent 8 hours in Bescot mess room and then did the same on return.

I fondly remember the lifts at Lancaster Station, you cannot feel them move. More than once I have thought what's wrong with the lift, it's not moved, then the doors open and you have travelled from platform to bridge level.
Reducing the proposed 360kph line speed is not a bad thing, it will give the Manchester trains enough time to reduce their speed from Handacre so they do not finish up in a field at Colwich Jct. :)
