Interesting. Presumably the end of WH Smuggs' Reading Room then, as it is built at the top of that staircase in the arch completely obstructing access to it.

That's not what the existing floor plan shows or the linked-to document says.

The doc link above doesn't work for me but this is a link to the whole planning application which does work:

Looks like you're correct, in that there's a second grand arch next to (to the right facing) the one containing WHS that is presently obscured, which contains the staircase. Surprisingly though there are no photos of that side of the booking hall online, only those taken with back to WHS and towards the actual booking office windows!

With regard to accessibility, a stairlift is indeed shown on the plans including the picture above.

Is all the painting finished? I was there just before Christmas and some of the platform supports are still in old faded Virgin Red, then for some reason you have Avanti teal green lamposts , plus the new majority green, cream and red on other suppprts, doors and stairs as per Preston, Carnforth ,Ulverston etc, which i always thought was Regional North West branding as it was the norm up the furness and Cumbrian Coast line before Northern purple!

Wheres the logic?!

as long as noone breaks the CPT (Changing Places Toilet) I don't mind. it's bad enough having to ask platform staff to open the non radar lock last time i visited,
Luckyy that there are loos in Lancaster Station on both sides if there's a curry house opening on P6

that's now disappeared off the planning portal
Planning website links often (or usually) time out, I’d say only a small minority will allow you to hot link directly to documents, there’s many that won’t even allow you to see a linked search result as you will have bypassed their check boxes about conditions, copyright etc etc.

Don't eat curry in my coach please.....eat it on the platform and do the people on the train a favour

It's years since I've boarded or alighted at Lancaster, but it looks very pleasant from inside my Pendolino.

I believe the green / cream / red was a recreation of the old Furness railway colours...not really appropriate for Lancaster

CPT = ???
oh sorry it's a abreviation I often forget to enlongate. It means Changing Places toilet. it is a specialised facility that is found at many major rail stations (need more of them at on network) for those who require facilities more advanced than the standard acessible toilet (Bench/Hoist/Space) Lancaster has a exelent one on Platform 3, with the existing facilities and new curry place it makes Lancaster quite well equipped.

Plenty of room for error there.

The first thing that springs to mind is the lack of tables on some of the 156 trains trundling through Lancaster these days.

Usually 158's on my line.

Don't eat curry in my coach please.....eat it on the platform and do the people on the train a favour

I'd take it over a stilton, which I've encountered my fellow passengers eating on a train.

Incidentally, I see they're refurbishing the loos at Lancaster station as well. I wonder if this is anticipation of the curry house opening

Its a bit inconvenient them being shut at the moment thats for sure. I take it that costs can be kept down doing both platforms at the same time or its quicker. I guess they need doing then they need doing.

I fondly remember the lifts at Lancaster Station, you cannot feel them move. More than once I have thought what's wrong with the lift, it's not moved, then the doors open and you have travelled from platform to bridge level.

Indeed, layout much the same. Less beige formica.

Still could have done with installing more than one hand dryer though.

Wow!! Lancaster gets better and better and better. The new toilets on platform 3 are THE BEST new toilets on platform 3 at Lancaster Station!!!!!

I was speaking to the wonderful staff and they told me the curry house opens in September!!

They also said there are plans for a Greggs at the station. This would be so perfect. A pub. A curry house. A toilet. A Greggs. A coffee shop. THE BEST staff.

Is there a better station on the network?

There is not.
