The cost of living agenda - how should the railway contribute ?

As I am a kind and generous sort, I have just done the research (above) for the Daily Mail/Telegraph article that would follow the public proposal of this scheme. I'll be even more generous - I will write the headline for them: RAIL EXPERTS PROPOSE SPENDING HALF OF ANNUAL SAVINGS ON NATIONAL...

    Greater Anglia fraud email investigation

I don't recall seeing a case where the amount demanded was that far out of balance. Could you point me towards it please? Or are you including any admin costs that the railway might seek to charge?

I am pretty certain that the National Rail Conditions of Travel do not say any such thing, but you can check them at https://assets.nationalrail.co.uk/e8xgegruud3g/7iflSDtwN50mQZMP6SKWH0/3bded7549df32c2f5eeadefac8bcb5d9/National_Rail_Conditions_of_Travel_July_2026.pdf

SWR investigation: Wrong Railcard used and was caught

Hi @summerspring - welcome to the forum! It's up to the original poster in this thread whether they want to share how things are going, but if you would like us to talk about any problems you are having with the railway, please start your own thread for it. We've found that it gets very...

They say that these are 'examples', so you have to assume that they are looking at other journeys as well.

I don' I don't think it's been spelt out in this thread why this might be, so here goes: There are actually two different sorts of courts in the UK: the criminal courts and the civil courts. The criminal courts (magistrates and crown courts) deal with crimes. Their job is to decide if someone...

I've slept since reading that. Apologies for the repetition.

    Off peak question

I'm not an expert on this, but I think that the analysis goes There's no such thing as an off-peak train, just off-peak tickets So to find out which trains you can use with your off-peak ticket, it would help to know where you are starting your journey to London from.

In support of the typo analysis, it might be worth noting that per https://www.brfares.com/!fares?orig=GCR&dest=CNM&period=20260705, a child Anytime Day Single is £3.15.

GTR FRAUD INVESTIGATION - Suspected Evasion

Check what your contract says. If there's a union where you work then ask them as they would be likely to know. If the apartment is more expensive than where you are now, putting off moving may be another way to raise the money that you owe the railway.

GTR FRAUD INVESTIGATION - Suspected Evasion

You also need to look at all of your options to legitimately raise the money quickly. In no particular order - borrowing from a bank - borrowing on your credit card - borrowing from family - seeking help from your church/mosque/synagogue/community association/similar What you should NOT do is...

As the OP has been sent a letter, almost certainly it will have an address to reply to at the top. So if sending an email doesn't get a response, then writing a letter to the given address might work. And if the son still has what they were given, have a look at that: it might give enough...

OK. I'm being picky. But that's what would happen if subsidy was equalised down.

GWR Settlement Offer £256.15 after interview under caution - advice please

In fairness, the OP has been admirably honest with us (more so, I think than they were with GWR) which has helped us to give relevant advice, and we probably shouldn't be judging them negatively for doing what we ask.

GWR Settlement Offer £256.15 after interview under caution - advice please

Welcome to the forum. To answer your questions as well as I can: 1. According to https://www.brfares.com/!fares?orig=PAD&dest=NTA&period=20260705, which is unofficial but does use official railway data, standard class 'walkup' single tickets from Paddington to Newton Abbot cost between £65.80...
